Forget your wallet — Dubai’s nol card will soon pay for almost everything

Your nol card is evolving — soon usable for more than transport: retail, parking, dining, and student life

Dubai’s nol card is about to get a lot more useful. The RTA has just entered into new agreements that extend the card’s reach well beyond buses and metros. Soon, you may tap it to park, dine, shop, and even pay for school-related services.

Imagine: you pull into a parking spot, tap your nol, walk into a café and tap it again, then catch your ride home — all with the same card. That’s the vision.

A card for campus, life, and commuting

One of the new initiatives introduces a “Study in Dubai – nol ISIC” card for higher education students. This will serve not just as a student ID, but also as a payment card. Students can use it for campus purchases, transport, and lifestyle discounts across the city.

This integration means fewer cards in your wallet and less hassle during your daily routine.

Tapping your way through parking and shopping

Partnership with Parkin PJSC means you’ll soon pay for parking via nol—no more juggling apps or coins at parking meters. Your nol will connect directly with Parkin’s system.

But that’s just the start. The plan is to roll out acceptance at retailers, restaurants, and entertainment venues too. That opens doors to using your nol for everyday spending — your cup of coffee, quick lunch, or shopping spree — without switching cards.

PayPal joins the ride

RTA’s tie-up with PayPal aims to make topping up easier and payments more secure. The idea is smooth, digital transactions with minimal friction.

This also paves the way for future integration between nol and online payments — possibly using your nol for e-commerce within the UAE.

Pushing this now

Dubai has long aimed to be cashless and fully digital. Expanding NOL’s reach aligns perfectly with that bigger goal.

Behind the scenes, the nol payment system is undergoing a big upgrade. Part of this transformation is shifting toward an account-based ticketing model, allowing alternate payment methods like digital wallets and bank cards to connect with nol’s infrastructure.

In short, the system is being rebuilt so it’s more flexible and future-proof.

expectations

  • The system won’t flip overnight — the rollout will be gradual.
  • Transport features will stay active as they are now while new services are phased in.
  • Merchants, parking operators, and campus services will gradually update their systems to support nol payments.
  • Students will be among the first to benefit via the nol ISIC card on campuses across Dubai.

During this transition, keep your existing payment methods handy until the new nol ecosystem is fully operational.

A smarter card for daily life

Keeping multiple cards and apps is a modern nuisance. A well-integrated nol could declutter your wallet and streamline your day.

For Dubai, consolidating more payments into nol gives better data, smarter city planning, and more seamless public services. Fewer paper tickets, fewer point-of-sale systems, less cash handling — it all adds up to a leaner, greener urban experience.

Soon, your nol card may feel like as essential as your phone. The vision is bold — and the foundations are being laid now.
