New Balance Introduces ‘Local Legends’ Runs Supporting Dubai’s Homegrown Businesses

A fresh community run series in Dubai is turning everyday routes into meaningful journeys that support local businesses.

There’s something different happening on Dubai’s streets this season. Not just another run, not just another fitness trend — but a movement that feels closer to home.

The Dubai Local Legends running series is bringing people together in a way that feels personal. Launched by New Balance in collaboration with Jumeirah Johns Running Club, the initiative is designed to celebrate the small businesses that quietly power the city’s neighbourhoods.

Instead of running past places, participants are now running towards them.

Running Through the Real Dubai

Step away from the glass towers for a moment, and Dubai tells a different story.

It’s in the early morning karak spots, the family-run groceries tucked between buildings, the barbers who know their customers by name. These are the places residents pass daily, often without a second thought.

‘Local Legends’ slows that down.

Each run is mapped around a nominated business. It could be a tiny café in Jumeirah, a laundromat in Al Wasl, or a corner shop that’s been around for years. Suddenly, these everyday stops become the highlight of the route.

Runners gather, move through familiar streets, and pause where the community’s heartbeat really lies.

It’s not about pace. It’s about presence.

How the Concept Works on the Ground?

The idea is refreshingly simple, and that’s what makes it work.

Residents nominate a business they believe deserves attention. No big criteria, no complicated filters — just genuine recommendations from people who know their neighbourhoods best.

From there, weekly runs are organized with the team at Jumeirah Johns Running Club. Each selected spot becomes part of the route, giving runners a chance to discover — or rediscover — places they might have overlooked.

There’s no pressure to perform. Walkers, joggers, seasoned runners — everyone finds a place here.

And that’s exactly the point.

It’s a Community Gesture

In a city that moves fast, small businesses can sometimes get lost in the noise.

This initiative changes that, even if in small ways.

When a group of runners shows up outside a neighbourhood café or a local store, it brings visibility. Conversations start. Curiosity builds. People return, not just for the run, but for what they discovered along the way.

Ana Elisa Seixas from New Balance summed it up simply — Dubai is full of hidden gems, and it’s time they get noticed.

For the founders of JJRC, this isn’t new territory. The club itself started with a similar mindset — bringing people together over a shared routine, while quietly supporting the community around them.

‘Local Legends’ just takes that idea and gives it a wider platform.

How This Reflects Dubai’s Evolving Lifestyle?

Dubai’s fitness scene has evolved. It’s no longer limited to gyms or large-scale events.

Community runs have become part of everyday life, especially in areas like Jumeirah and Marina. They’re social, flexible, and easy to join. No memberships, no barriers.

But more importantly, people are now looking for experiences that feel real.

This is where ‘Local Legends’ fits in.

It blends movement with meaning. It gives residents a reason to step outside their routine and see their surroundings differently.

A Different Kind of Finish Line

There’s no medal waiting at the end of these runs.

Sometimes, it’s a cup of coffee. Sometimes, it’s a conversation. Sometimes, it’s just the feeling of discovering something new in a place you thought you already knew.

And that’s enough.

Because in a city like Dubai, where everything moves quickly, moments like these tend to stand out.

The Dubai Local Legends running series isn’t trying to be loud or extravagant. It doesn’t need to be.

It works because it feels real. It brings people closer — not just to fitness, but to the community around them.

And in doing so, it quietly reminds everyone what makes Dubai more than just a city.
