The news of AR Rahman and his bassist Mohini Dey announcing their respective divorces on the same day sent the gossip mills into overdrive. With wild dating speculations lighting up timelines, Mohini Dey decided enough was enough. Taking to Instagram, the sensational musician slammed the baseless rumours with class and a touch of much-needed reality.
Mohini Dey Opens Up About AR Rahman
Mohini Dey, the rockstar bassist who’s graced global stages alongside AR Rahman, took a firm stand against the absurd dating buzz. In a heartfelt video, she called out the misinformation, saying, “AR is like a father to me!”. Mohini made it crystal clear that their relationship is based on mutual respect and nothing more.
Spilling her truth, Mohini shared, I have been fortunate to have several father figures and role models in my life who have played essential roles in my upbringing. AR, or AR Rahman, is one of them. I hold him in high regard and consider him like a father. Interestingly, he is slightly younger than my dad, and his daughter is around my age. We share a deep respect and love for one another.”
She also reflected on her journey with Rahman, revealing she toured with his band for eight and a half years before branching out to the U.S. to collaborate with other artists. While she cherishes her time with the musical legend, Mohini urged everyone to respect her privacy during this challenging time.
In an emotional caption accompanying her video, Mohini didn’t hold back. She added, “It’s shocking to witness the extent of misinformation and unfounded claims being made about us. It feels wrong for the media to sensationalize our personal situations.” She highlighted the lack of empathy in how sensitive issues are handled, asking for kindness instead of chaos.
Mohini also reflected on the impact of influential figures in her life, from her late father to legends like Ranjit Barot and Louiz Banks. She credited these mentors for shaping her into the powerhouse musician she is today.
Mohini requests for Privacy
Addressing her recent separation from husband Mark Hartsuch, Mohini gracefully requested support rather than judgment. “The media and paparazzi often overlook the impact their actions have on people’s lives. While I do not owe anyone an explanation, I wish to prevent any false narratives from escalating and disrupting my life. Please respect our privacy,” she added.
The rumours seemed to have gained traction following Rahman’s announcement of his split with Saira Banu, but Mohini has had enough of the unwarranted drama.
Beyond the noise, Mohini Dey remains a global sensation in the music industry. With over 40 international performances with Rahman and collaborations with legends like Zakir Hussain, Steve Vai, and Marco Minnemann, Mohini’s resume is nothing short of extraordinary.
As she rightly points out, “I don’t owe anyone any explanations but also, I don’t want this to brew and interrupt my day.”
