Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has begun implementing traffic diversions in Mirdif as construction kicks off on the new Metro Blue Line. This development is part of a long-term plan to upgrade the city’s public transport network and reduce road congestion across high-traffic zones.
To support construction activities, changes have been introduced at one of Mirdif’s busiest intersections near City Centre Mirdif.
Changes for Motorists
The roundabout where 5th Street intersects with 8th Street has been closed temporarily. To keep traffic moving:
- Vehicles on 5th Street are now rerouted to 8th Street heading towards City Centre Mirdif.
- Drivers on 8th Street are diverted to 5th Street in the direction of Algeria Street.
- A new access road has been built to help mall visitors reach the parking area without disruption.
- A U-turn point has been installed near Ghoroob Square, specifically to ease movement for residents travelling from City Centre Mirdif Street.
The RTA has urged all drivers to stay informed, follow signage, and consider alternative routes during this temporary phase.
These Diversions Are Necessary
These traffic adjustments support the construction of the Dubai Metro Blue Line, a strategic infrastructure project that will connect nine major districts through a 30-kilometre track. The line is expected to cater to more than one million residents by the year 2040.
The Blue Line plays a vital role in both the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aim to enhance sustainable transportation and urban connectivity throughout the emirate.
Once completed, the Metro Blue Line will link key residential and commercial areas, including International City, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Warqaa, and Mirdif, while offering direct interchanges with the existing Red and Green Lines.
Tips for Smoother Travel
To reduce delays during this period, the RTA advises the following:
- Avoid peak hours whenever possible, especially around City Centre Mirdif.
- Use alternative routes, such as Algeria Street or Tripoli Street, to bypass closed areas.
- Follow detour signs and use real-time navigation apps for updated traffic information.
- Allow extra time for journeys in and around Mirdif.

The current diversions are short-term inconveniences aligned with a broader vision of improved mobility and transit accessibility. The Metro Blue Line will not only provide additional transport capacity but also reduce travel times, lower emissions, and support Dubai’s goal of a more sustainable urban future.
Among the planned features are state-of-the-art metro stations, integration with other transport modes, and seamless connectivity across various city hubs.
Though the diversions may cause some immediate delays, they signal progress toward a more connected, efficient Dubai. Motorists are encouraged to remain patient and adjust travel plans accordingly, as the city moves forward with key infrastructure improvements.
