Kazem Ice Cream Brings a Taste of Gaza to Ajman

Gaza's Iconic Ice Cream Parlour Finds a New Home in Ajman

Kazem Ice Cream, a cherished name in Gaza since 1950, has opened its first UAE branch in Ajman, offering residents a nostalgic taste of Palestinian heritage.

A Legacy of Tradition

Founded by Mohammad Kazem Abu Shaban’s father, Kazem Ice Cream became a staple in northern Gaza, known for its creamy ice creams and the iconic citrusy slushy drink, barrad. The parlour was a beloved spot for locals and visitors alike, serving as a cultural landmark for over seven decades.

However, the escalating conflict in Gaza led to the closure of the original shop in 2023. Despite a brief reopening in February 2025, ongoing supply shortages and instability made it challenging to maintain operations. Abu Shaban, who lost family members during the conflict, decided to bring the legacy of Kazem to the UAE, starting with Ajman.

Why Ajman?

Ajman was chosen as the location for Kazem’s first UAE branch due to its established Palestinian community. Abu Shaban noted, “Every time they come here, [visitors] say it brings back memories of 30, 40 years ago.” The Ajman outlet aims to preserve a piece of Palestinian heritage far from home, offering a familiar taste to those who have longed for it.

What’s on Offer

At the new Ajman branch, customers can enjoy:

  • Traditional Ice Cream: Rich, creamy flavours made from time-honoured recipes.
  • Barrad: A refreshing citrus slushy drink, a signature offering of Kazem.

The parlour has already drawn significant attention, with many patrons expressing their appreciation for the authentic flavours and the emotional connection it fosters.

While the Ajman branch marks a significant milestone, Abu Shaban has plans to expand Kazem Ice Cream to other UAE cities, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The goal is to share a piece of Palestinian culture and provide a comforting reminder of home to the diaspora community.
