Karisma Kapoor’s ‘Brown’ goes to Berlin

Karisma Kapoor is set to return with her second web series “Brown,” directed by “Delhi Belly” maker Abhinay Deo, and it will be the only Indian series to be included in the Berlinale Series Market Selects of the 2023 Berlin International Film Festival.

The Berlinale Series Market has returned to Potsdamer Platz for its ninth edition (February 20-22). The third edition of Berlinale Series Market Selects features 16 titles from five continents, including Chile, South Africa, Israel, Belgium, Lithuania, and India, as well as two German productions.

Rita Brown, an alcoholic who is suicidal, and Arjun Sinha, a widower with survivor’s guilt, are at the centre of the story of “Brown”. An unstoppable serial killer who is on the loose must be dealt with by the protagonists. The existential angst of these investigators, whose lives are on the verge of a nothingness, is captured in the Neo-noir web series. The show explores themes of depression, worthlessness, addiction, corruption, and deceitfulness.

Expressing her happiness Karisma Kapoor said in an interview, “I am extremely happy to be a part of ‘Brown’ and working with such a fantastic director Abhinay Deo, and Zee Studios who have backed such fabulous content. Playing the role of Rita Brown has been intriguing and creatively satisfying, to say the least. Super excited that ‘Brown’ has been chosen on an international platform, the Berlinale Series Market Select.”

Abhinay Deo, the director of ‘Brown’ further stated, “Suspense and human vulnerabilities round out ‘Brown’s’ artillery. To be precise, it also carries a time pressure element and a series of mysterious events that shall keep the audiences hooked on to their seats.”

the web series also stars Surya Sharma, Soni Razdan, Helen, KK Raina and Jishu Sen. Karisma Kapoor was last seen on screen in ‘Dangerous Ishq’ in 2012. In 2020, she starred in the web series ‘Mentalhood,’ which received positive reviews.
