Love him or troll him, you can’t ignore Karan Johar! The filmmaker has been ruling Bollywood with his larger-than-life storytelling. But, his name always pops up when the ‘nepotism debate’ is in full swing. This time it’s his latest production, Nadaaniyan, that’s got everyone talking! The Netflix teen rom-com, starring Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor, hit the screens with a mix of reactions – while some loved it, critics didn’t hold back in roasting it. But KJo isn’t sitting back quietly – he just called out the harsh reviews, and you need to hear what he said!
Karan Johar Reacts To The ‘Nadaaniyan’ Backlash
At a recent media event, Karan was quizzed about the brutal reviews floating around. His response? Unapologetically candid! “People who know me know that my relationship with film critics never changes based on what they write. It is their right and their job. I don’t have conspiracy theories that they are on a mission to bring down a film,” KJo stated, making it clear that he’s all for constructive criticism. However, what really got under his skin was the aggressive language used in some of these reviews.
Referring to a critic who wrote, ‘I want to kick this film’, Karan didn’t hold back. He expressed, “When you write like that, I have a problem with that. The use of such language reflects badly on the person and not on the film.”
He went on to add, “I find it disturbing because intellectual cinema lovers should have a sensitive and compassionate side. Nobody wants to be kicked because kicking is violence. In the real world, words can be equally violent.”
KJo just served some of his critics a reality check!
What’s ‘Nadaaniyan’ All About?
For those who haven’t caught up yet, Nadaaniyan is a Gen-Z rom-com streaming on Netflix. It’s directed by Shauna Gautam. It follows the story of Pia Jaisingh (Khushi Kapoor), a South Delhi rich girl, who hires the ambitious Arjun Mehta (Ibrahim Ali Khan) as her fake boyfriend to shake things up in her life. Sounds like a fun, chaotic teenage mess? Well, that’s exactly what it is! The film also boasts a stellar cast, including Mahima Chaudhry, Dia Mirza, Suniel Shetty, Jugal Hansraj, Archana Puran Singh, and Meezaan Jafri.
Every film gets its share of love and hate, but KJo is making sure critics keep it classy. Whether Nadaaniyan deserves the backlash or not is up for debate, but one thing is for sure – when Karan speaks, Bollywood listens!
What do you think? Is Karan right in calling out the harsh language, or should critics have total freedom to say it as they feel? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
