Kangana Ranaut, Bollywood’s actual ‘Queen’, has officially announced the OTT release date of her ambitious political drama, Emergency! Kangana Ranaut Makes It Official – Emergency Hits OTT Soon!
Taking to Instagram Stories, Kangana kept it short, sweet, and straight to the point – “17th March releasing on @Netflix” – letting fans know exactly when to mark their calendars.
Originally released in theatres on January 17, 2025, Emergency stirred up conversations for its bold take on one of India’s most controversial political periods. Despite mixed reactions, the film pulled in Rs 21.65 crore at the box office, as per Sacnilk.com.
What’s Emergency All About?
For the unversed, Emergency isn’t just another historical drama – it’s Kangana’s passion project, where she not only plays Indira Gandhi but also directs the film herself. The movie takes a deep dive into the Emergency period from 1975-1977, showcasing the power struggles, political chaos, and historic decisions that changed India forever.
Backed by an ensemble cast featuring Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Milind Soman, and the late Satish Kaushik, the film promises power-packed performances and a gripping narrative.
The Controversy That Surrounded Emergency
Before making it to the theatres, Emergency found itself in the middle of multiple controversies. From delays and censorship issues to backlash from Sikh organizations, the film’s road to release was anything but smooth.
Last August, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) sent a legal notice to the makers, accusing the film of misrepresenting Sikh history and demanding the removal of certain scenes. Despite the uproar, Kangana stood her ground, and the film finally saw the light of day.
What’s Next for Kangana?
While Kangana continues to make headlines for her bold choices in cinema, she’s also stepping into an entirely new territory- hospitality! The actress recently announced her own café in the Himalayas, calling it a childhood dream come true. From Bollywood to politics to now becoming a restaurateur, is there anything Kangana can’t do? We think not!
If you’re a fan of hard-hitting political dramas, Emergency is a must-watch. Whether you loved it in theatres or are watching it for the first time, Kangana’s latest directorial venture is coming straight to your Netflix screens on March 17!
