John Abraham Reveals OTT Platforms Rejected ‘The Diplomat’
John recently opened up about the cold shoulder his film received from streaming platforms. In a candid chat, he revealed, “The loss of faith happens from the studio. So when a studio sees a film when it goes and does a round of OTTs because a studio may want to mitigate the risk by sending it to an OTT channel when some OTT channels have refused The Diplomat because they didn’t find it great. They didn’t find it good…They rejected the film; they threw it out.”
John isn’t just proving his critics wrong, he’s rubbing it in their faces! He shared, In the case of The Diplomat, we have proved the studio wrong, the OTTs wrong, and everyone wrong. The best thing about The Diplomat…is expectations of everyone were zero. So, from zero, when you don’t go to a two-three, but you go straight to a 10, people are like, ‘Oh, wow, this is crazy’. I’ve people coming and telling me, ‘Does this studio know that they have got the best film in the last ten years under their belt?’. That’s a victory for me.”
While the OTTs might be regretting their decision, John’s film is riding high on audience love.
What The Diplomat Is All About!
Directed by Shivam Nair, The Diplomat is inspired by true events – the gripping rescue mission of Indian national Uzma Ahmad from Pakistan in 2017. She was allegedly honey-trapped and forced into marriage at gunpoint, and it was senior diplomat JP Singh’s efforts that brought her back to India. John plays the role of JP Singh, bringing his signature intensity to the screen, alongside Sadia Khateeb in a pivotal role.
With The Diplomat now basking in critical and commercial success, it’s safe to say John Abraham has once again silenced the doubters.
