But Chahal and Dhanashree weren’t here for the long wait! They challenged the family court’s earlier decision, arguing that they’ve already been living separately since June 2022. The Bombay High Court took their plea seriously and gave the Bandra Family Court a deadline i.e. March 20 to wrap things up before Chahal gets busy with IPL 2025.
Money Talks: The ?4.75 Crore Alimony Saga
Their divorce isn’t just about signing papers; there’s a hefty ?4.75 crore alimony involved. Reports suggest that Chahal has already paid ?2.37 crore, but there was a bit of back-and-forth about the remaining sum. The family court had initially denied their plea, citing that Chahal hadn’t fully complied with the agreement. But the High Court overruled that decision, stating that the second installment would only be due after the divorce decree was issued. In short – no legal roadblocks anymore!
Chahal’s IPL Hustle
With the IPL season knocking at the door, Chahal is shifting gears and getting ready to play for the Punjab Kings in the upcoming tournament. His jam-packed schedule was a major factor in fast-tracking the legal proceedings. Justice Madhav Jamdar made it clear that the case should be wrapped up before March 21, ensuring that Chahal can focus on cricket without legal distractions.
