Ibrahim Ali Khan Reveals Speech Struggles Due To Birth Condition, Says He’s ‘Not Okay’ With Debut Work

Ibrahim Ali Khan, the latest entry from the Pataudi clan, has officially set foot in the world of cinema! His Netflix debut Naadaniyan had the internet buzzing, expectations soaring, and critics sharpening their pens. While the hype was real (he is Saif and Amrita’s son, after all), reactions to his first outing were a mixed bag. Turns out, carrying the weight of a legendary legacy is no cakewalk – especially when you’re dealing with personal battles behind the scenes.

Ibrahim Ali Khan opens up about his hearing disability

Some fans thought Ibrahim’s voice sounded a bit off. Dubbed, maybe? Lisp, perhaps? Well, our new-gen Nawab wasn’t about to let the gossip run wild. In a refreshingly candid confession, Ibrahim spilled the tea on why his speech isn’t perfect and it’s not something he just picked up on set.

In an honest heart-to-heart with GQ India, Ibrahim revealed that he was born with severe jaundice, which messed with his brainstem and caused significant hearing loss. He shared, “I went on to lose quite a bit of my hearing, and that impacted my speech. My speech is something that I’ve had to work hard on since I was a child, with coaches and therapists. It’s not perfect; I’m still working really hard on it.”

While most debutants might hide behind filters and finesse, he’s serving vulnerability and grit instead. And that’s more than just refreshing – it’s downright inspiring. He’s not chasing perfection; he’s building progress.

Ibrahim opens up about naadaniyan getting harsh reviews

When asked how he felt about his Naadaniyan performance, Ibrahim didn’t sugarcoat it. “A lot of people told me, ‘Don’t stress. It’s only your first film,’” he shared. But he isn’t here for mediocrity. “That’s not okay for me,” he declared. He wanted a bang, not a maybe. He wanted to nail it, not just pass the test. Now that’s the kind of hungry we love to see.

Ibrahim may not be patting himself on the back just yet, but what he’s doing is even better: acknowledging the gaps and pushing forward. He’s already completed three films at just 24, and he’s eyeing growth with every frame. “I’ll learn. I have to learn,” he said and that mindset alone screams longevity.

about naadaniyan

In case you missed it (or just skipped straight to the memes), Naadaniyan is a breezy campus love story with a twist. Ibrahim stars opposite Khushi Kapoor as Arjun, a guy who fakes a relationship with Pia (Khushi) so she can boost her campus cred. Classic rom-com set-up, but of course, emotions spiral, feelings surface, and hearts break. The film also features 90s sweetheart Jugal Hansraj, action daddy Suniel Shetty, and timeless beauty Dia Mirza. Drama, love, and a whole lotta naadaniyan, you get the vibe.

Being Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s son comes with perks, but it also means being put under a microscope. Ibrahim’s debut might not have been the mic-drop moment many expected, but the guy’s got heart, hustle, and a story that’s already turning heads. He’s not chasing applause, he’s chasing better.
