Half the excitement around War 2 was watching Hrithik Roshan slip back into his badass avatar of Major Kabir Dhaliwal, this time locking horns with none other than Jr NTR as the fierce Major Vikram Chelapathi. It was supposed to be the crossover fans had been manifesting for years —a delicious mix of Bollywood charm and Telugu firepower. But cut to reality: the film seems to have missed that sweet spot, leaving audiences scratching their heads, wondering – what do we even like anymore?
Mounted on a jaw-dropping budget of ?300–400 crore, War 2 was pitched as the ultimate action spectacle of 2025. The only problem? It dropped the same week as Rajinikanth’s Coolie. When Thalaiva storms the box office, you know the competition is going to bleed. Reviews? Mixed at best. The result – our “sure-shot blockbuster” is finding it hard to reach towards that ?200 crore mark.
Distributor exits industry after Hrithik Roshan-Jr Ntr “War 2” box office failure? Reports suggest
Rumours started buzzing that Naga Vamsi, who handled the Telugu release, was so heartbroken with the response that he was planning to QUIT the industry altogether. That’s how brutal the chatter got. But Vamsi, being Vamsi, hopped on X (formerly Twitter) to clear the air. He wrote, “Looks like you all are missing me a lot.. Vamsi this, Vamsi that – all kinds of gripping narratives and buzz are going on… No worries, there are some really good writers on X. Sorry to disappoint you all, but the time hasn’t come yet… at least another 10–15 years to go. At the cinemas… for the cinema, always! See you all very soon with our next outing #MassJathara!”

Vamsi adi, Vamsi idi ani gripping narratives tho full hadavidi nadustundi…
Parledu, X lo manchi writers unnaru.
Sorry to disappoint you all, but inka aa time raaledu… minimum inko 10-15 years undi.
At the cinemas… for the cinema,…
Sure, War 2 isn’t breaking records like its predecessor, but it isn’t sinking either. With a domestic tally hovering around ?199 crore, it’s just about to enter that much-coveted ?200 crore club. Add to that a cast boasting Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana, and Varun Badola, and there’s still enough star power to keep audiences trickling in.
The film was hyped as a “battle of legends,” but the outcome feels more like a tug-of-war with the audience’s patience. Hrithik’s swag? Still intact. Jr NTR’s fire? Untouchable. But does War 2 live up to the hysteria? Not really. Fans are left wondering if the universe gave them the crossover they wanted, or a cautionary tale about too much hype killing the buzz.
