HH Sheikh Mohammed & Other World Leaders Offer Condolences Over India Train Accident

On Friday, June 2nd, 2023, India’s Odisha state reported the nation’s worst and most unfortunate train accident in nearly three decades. The triple train accident happened on Friday night and claimed at least 280 lives and injured over 900 people. The heartbreaking incident shook the country, and world leaders took to their social media platforms to express condolences to the families and the Government of India. HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, extended his “deepest condolences to the people of India” along with other UAE leaders.

HH Sheikh Mohammed & Other Leaders Share Condolences On Odisha Train Accident

Sheikh Mohammed shared his condolences on Twitter on June 3rd and wrote, “I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the people of India in the wake of the tragic train collision. Our hearts go out to the families who lost loved ones and to the injured. The UAE stands in solidarity with India during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.”

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, shared his condolences on Twitter and sent a message of condolence to Droupadi Murmu, President of India. Globally, leaders from Japan, Canada, Pakistan, the US, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and other countries expressed their deepest condolences to the families and the Government of India.

Japan’s Prime Minister Kishida sent a condolence message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the news of the loss of many precious lives and the injuries in the train accident in the State of Odisha. On behalf of the Government of Japan and its people, I would like to express our heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives and their bereaved families. I also pray for the speedy recovery of those who were injured.”

Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau said that Canadians stand by India during this difficult time.

Among other world leaders, Bhutan’s Prime Minster Lotay Tshering offered his condolences and prayers to PM Modi on Twitter.
