Daboo Malik Addresses Rift With Son Amaal Malik
In a heart-to-heart interview with Faridoon Shahryar, Daboo Malik admitted he wasn’t exactly “Father of the Year.” Opening up about son Amaal’s decision to distance himself, Daboo revealed that parents too can slip, stumble, and seriously mess up. His words? Equal parts apology, regret, and self-reflection.
He explained, “The statement was meant for a certain family member, but it was seen as against the family. Amaal’s words opened our eyes, and we realised the mistakes we had made over the years. No matter what, Jyoti and I have to take responsibility because we were at fault.”
Remember earlier this year when Amaal Malik’s Insta note about “moving away from family” broke the internet? Well, before it disappeared, the damage was already done. Fans speculated, headlines screamed, and since then, Daboo has been in interview mode, trying to set the record straight.
Daboo confessed that both he and wife Jyoti fell short as parents. According to him, the mistakes were real, the guilt was heavy, and the wake-up call was loud. He even admitted to spending nights glued to Amaal’s side just trying to figure out where it all went wrong. Daboo reflected, “His statements opened our eyes. We realised the mistakes we had committed. That’s when our relationship solidified. Sometimes, parents can be wrong. You need a medium to express what’s going on when things go wrong. And things were going wrong. Jyoti and I have to accept the blame — we were wrong. Maa baap se galti hosakti hai.”
Amaal At 15: From Teenager To Family ATM
This is where the story twists the knife. Daboo openly revealed that when the family’s financial ship started sinking, he turned to 15-year-old Amaal and asked him to take charge. Imagine being a teenager with homework and also handling the family’s EMI stress. No wonder Daboo calls it one of his biggest regrets, watching his kid swap cricket bats for composing notes under financial pressure.
In this tale of spotlight and shadows, Daboo also admitted that while Amaal was pushed into being the “saviour,” Armaan’s own dreams quietly took a backseat. Intentions may have been survival, but the cost? Two young boys carrying the weight of an entire family’s ambition.
“The next 15 days after that, I was in bed with him continuously after 4 am,” Daboo recalled. “Forget just staying in the house, I was lying in bed with him because I needed to understand what had happened. I was not a mature father then. I was going through my own problems. And, I failed as a father, and Jyoti failed as a mother.”
