Saudi Arabia Ensures Compensation for Hajj Pilgrims Facing Accommodation Issues

Supporting Pilgrims: Accommodation Compensation Efforts

Amidst the preparations for the upcoming Hajj pilgrimage in 2024, Saudi Arabia has introduced new measures to support domestic pilgrims who may encounter accommodation delays or issues during their journey.

Compensation for Accommodation Delays

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has announced that domestic pilgrims will be eligible for compensation if they experience delays in obtaining accommodation in Mecca or other sacred sites exceeding two hours. Pilgrims facing such delays will receive compensation equivalent to 10% of the value of their reserved accommodation package.

Stricter Penalties for Violators

In a bid to hold service providers accountable, companies found guilty of repeated violations will face tougher penalties. In cases of recurrence, the compensation may increase to 15% of the package value. Additionally, if a contracted company fails to provide accommodation, the Ministry will step in and provide housing at the company’s expense.

Ensuring Pilgrim Rights

Even if accommodation is provided within two hours of arrival but fails to meet the agreed-upon standards, pilgrims will still receive 5% of the package value as compensation. These measures aim to safeguard the rights and comfort of pilgrims throughout their journey.

Other Hajj Preparations

In addition to the accommodation compensation scheme, Saudi Arabia has opened e-registration for citizens and foreign Muslims residing in the kingdom to participate in Hajj 2024. The Ministry has introduced four Hajj packages with varying prices based on accommodation types, ranging from SAR4,099 to SAR13,265.

Women’s Participation and Vaccination Requirements

Reaffirming their commitment to inclusivity, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has clarified that women can participate in the pilgrimage without a male guardian (Mahram) for Hajj 2024. This requirement is specific to the Hajj pilgrimage and not applicable to all journeys.

Furthermore, all domestic pilgrims must undergo vaccinations against Neisseria Meningitis and seasonal influenza as part of the registration process, ensuring the health and safety of all participants.

As the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia prepares for the sacred journey of Hajj 2024, these measures underscore their dedication to ensuring a smooth and secure experience for pilgrims. With compensation provisions in place for accommodation issues and other supportive initiatives, pilgrims can embark on their spiritual journey with confidence, knowing that their well-being is a top priority.
