Guardians of Water Festival Brings Storytelling, Heritage and Learning to Expo City Dubai

The Guardians of Water Festival Dubai is returning to Terra – The Sustainability Pavilion at Expo City Dubai over two weekends, on 30–31 August and 6–7 September 2025. Set against the backdrop of the UAE’s longstanding focus on sustainability, the festival is designed as a family-friendly event that combines education, cultural discovery, and entertainment.

Timed with school reopening, the festival teaches kids and parents about water’s importance through fun, interactive activities.

Families Can Expect:

The programme is designed to immerse visitors in the theme of water through a mix of workshops, storytelling, and heritage experiences.

  • Storytelling Sessions
Children’s authors Kathy Urban and Beverly Jatwani will lead engaging sessions that bring freshwater habitats and natural features to life through their imaginative stories. These sessions aim to inspire curiosity and encourage children to understand the importance of protecting natural resources.
  • Heritage Corner
Visitors can explore how Emirati communities managed water in earlier times. A guided journey takes families from the falaj irrigation system, once central to desert agriculture, to the Laboratory of Future Values, showcasing the nation’s innovative approaches to sustainability.
  • Hands-On Workshops
Children and adults can try building small-scale falaj irrigation systems, experiment with water filtration, and take part in games like Freshwater Heroes Bingo, designed to make learning about sustainability interactive and enjoyable.

Ticket Options and Passes:

The festival charges AED 50 for adult admission, while children under 12 enter free.

Visitors can buy the AED 110 Attraction Pass for access to Terra, Alif, and the Vision Pavilion. For an additional AED 35, guests can join a Taqa Island session, adding further variety to the family day out.

Ticket details are here.

Families in Dubai Will Love This Festival:

Events like the Guardians of Water Festival highlight how Expo City continues to serve as more than just a landmark from Expo 2020. It has become a living hub for sustainability, innovation, and family-friendly activities.

For children, the event offers an engaging alternative to classroom learning, making complex topics like water conservation easy to understand through play and storytelling. For parents, it’s a weekend opportunity that balances entertainment with meaningful education, all within an environment designed to spark curiosity about the future.
