Dubai has just completed a landmark beautification initiative across Sheikh Zayed and Al Khail Roads, planting over 2.5 million flower seedlings and 6,500 trees across 1.4 million square meters. The “Green Dubai Project” aims to create more sustainable, green urban spaces with an ambitious Dh245 million investment, which is a core aspect of Dubai’s strategic urban planning.
Aesthetic Transformation for Iconic Roads
With Sheikh Zayed Road being Dubai’s busiest highway, the project targeted four key intersections to create lush, visually appealing spaces for residents and visitors alike. These junctions now feature 1.5 million flower seedlings and 3,500 trees, creating a scenic landscape along Dubai’s primary transportation artery. The effort includes 290,000 square meters of soil mulching to prevent erosion and enhance beauty.

Al Khail Road intersections were transformed with 1 million flower seedlings, 3,000 trees, and 143,654 square meters of mulched soil. This coverage enhances the road’s appeal and promotes environmental health by preventing soil degradation and supporting sustainable urban development.
Strategic Sustainability and Greenery Expansion
Beyond visual appeal, this initiative contributes to residents’ well-being and supports sustainable urban growth in the region. As part of its “Green Dubai” commitment, the municipality aims to expand greenery using water-efficient irrigation.
Dubai Municipality expanded green spaces by 234 hectares in 2023, up from 170 hectares in 2022, demonstrating its dedication to sustainability. The project’s modern irrigation systems ensure water conservation, demonstrating Dubai’s leadership in implementing smart, environmentally-friendly urban development strategies.
