A Game-Changer for Tourism in the GCC: Common Visa Set to Simplify Travel Across the Region

A New Dawn for GCC Tourism

In a groundbreaking development, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is set to introduce a transformative common tourism visa, revolutionizing travel across its member nations. This move, inspired by Europe’s Schengen system, is poised to significantly enhance tourism in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Unanimous Approval at Regional Summit

The plan received resounding approval during a pivotal regional ministers’ meeting at the Oman Across Ages Museum in Manah in early October. Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, officially confirmed this historic decision during a subsequent meeting of regional interior ministers at the GCC summit in Muscat, Oman, on November 8.

Minister Al Marri’s Strategic Vision

Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy, sheds light on the next steps, emphasizing the development of specific regulations and legislation for the visa. The implementation timeline hinges on the readiness of each GCC country’s internal systems.

“This initiative is an integral part of the Gulf Cooperation Council 2030 tourism strategy, designed to elevate the tourism sector’s contribution to the GDP through increased inter-GCC travel and elevated hotel occupancy rates, transforming it into a pre-eminent global destination for both regional and international tourists,” affirms Minister Al Marri.
