K-pop fans in the UAE will soon have the chance to step into the shoes of their favourite idols. This August, Abu Dhabi will host its first-ever free K-pop training academy, offering a full performer’s experience without the need to travel abroad.
Running from 20 to 22 August at Dee Studio, the K-Pop Academy X DIMA Dream School will combine dance, vocal, and production sessions for participants of all ages. The Korean Cultural Centre is organising it in partnership with the Dong-Ah Institute of Media & Arts (DIMA), a South Korean institution that nurtures talents who have gone on to join leading acts like SEVENTEEN and ZEROBASEONE.
A Closer Look at the Programme
This is not your usual community dance class. The academy mirrors K-pop artist training, offering:
- Dance Training – Learn the choreography to chart-topping tracks from BTS, BLACKPINK, and rising groups such as HUNTR/X.
- Vocal Coaching – Refine your singing skills under the guidance of experienced instructors from DIMA.
- Performance Filming – Younger participants will also explore the video production side of the industry, creating performance reels in true K-pop style.
The sessions will be led by DIMA professors and student artists, bringing authentic industry expertise to the UAE.
Schedule for Different Age Groups
We tailored each day for a specific age category to ensure the training feels relevant and comfortable for participants.
Tuesday, 20 August – Youth
- Dance: 1 pm to 3 pm – HUNTR/X and BTS
- Vocal: 3 pm to 4:30 pm – HUNTR/X and BTS
Wednesday, 21 August – Adults
- Dance: 1 pm to 3 pm – BLACKPINK
- Vocal: 3 pm to 4:30 pm – BTS
Thursday, 22 August – Kids
- Performance and video production workshops
By dividing the sessions this way, attendees can learn alongside others in the same stage of life, creating a more engaging environment.
A Cultural Milestone for the UAE
The popularity of Korean pop culture in the UAE has grown significantly over the past decade, with concerts and fan meet-ups drawing large crowds. However, access to professional-level training has been limited.
This initiative not only gives fans a taste of life as a K-pop performer but also highlights the UAE’s increasing role as a hub for global cultural exchange. Bringing DIMA’s expertise to Abu Dhabi adds credibility and excitement to the event, making it a rare opportunity for aspiring performers.
Registration Details
The academy offers free admission, but it limits the number of spaces. With K-pop interest surging across the country, organisers expect spots to fill up quickly. Interested participants should register in advance to secure their place.
