Let’s face it, being a Bollywood starkid isn’t all glitter and glam. It comes with a whole lot of baggage, especially if you’re trying to carve your own path in an industry that’s known for its ruthless side. Esha Deol, daughter of Bollywood’s dream girl Hema Malini and legendary actor Dharmendra, knows this all too well. While she ruled the 2000s with hits like Dhoom, No Entry, and Kaal, her journey wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows.
In a recent candid interview, Esha opened up about the dark mental toll she faced when rumours about her drug addiction spread like wildfire in the media. Here’s her raw, real talk about the time when she was dragged through the mud, and how she handled it.
Esha Deol opens up about The Weight of Being Called a ‘Drug Addict’
We all know that fame comes with a price, and for Esha, that price was her mental peace. She revealed that in the early 2000s, when she was in her prime, a media storm broke out with headlines claiming that she was dabbling in drugs and heading straight to rehab. Imagine being in her shoes – young, successful, and suddenly, the entire world is accusing you of something that’s simply not true.
“I would like to say that I am dead against drugs and I have never touched it. When that article (about her being a drug addict) came out, I was so depressed and hurt that I told my mom she could get my blood test done to check,” Esha admitted.
In her mom’s biography Hema Malini: Beyond the Dream Girl, Esha shared how she approached Hema Malini to clear the air. In an emotional moment, she offered to undergo a blood test just to prove her innocence. She shared, “I would have never done anything that would put my parents to shame. Yes, I would party, I would have a few drinks with my friends, I had my share of fun and why not? That was the right age and time. At that age, everyone parties and drinks; the only issue was that I was in the public eye.”
A Starkid’s Reality: Living Under the Microscope
It’s not easy living in the shadow of two iconic Bollywood stars, and Esha knows it better than anyone. The daughter of Hema Malini and Dharmendra, she had big shoes to fill and a spotlight that never turned off.
Being constantly in the public eye means you’re judged for every single decision you make – whether it’s the movies you choose or the parties you attend. One slip-up, and the media’s ready to tear you apart. For Esha, it wasn’t the parties that were the problem; it was the way the media twisted everything.
Where Is Esha Now?
Esha has been making waves even today. She was last seen in the action-packed web series Hunter: Tootega Nahi Todega, starring alongside Suniel Shetty and Barkha Bisht. The show is streaming on Amazon Mini TV and is getting some attention for her fierce performance. Esha might not be on the big screen as often, but she’s definitely still a force to be reckoned with.
