UAE is creating history in Space and the Arab World. And to add more to its glory, the country’s first astronaut, Hazza Al Mansouri, an Emirati, is set to create history again. Al Mansouri created history in 2019 when he spent eight days on board the International Space Station in September 2019, and now, he is all set to embark on the journey again. Hazza Al Mansouri will help his colleague Sultan Al Neyadi, who started his six-month journey on ISS as part of Expedition 69 and Al Mansouri will become the increment lead for the remainder of the mission. Al Mansouri becomes the first Arab to take on the position and will act as the immediate point of contact between mission control on Earth and the crew aboard the ISS. He will identify critical issues, gather all the relevant and important information and pass it on to the astronauts and help them develop and communicate mission procedures.
Furthermore, Al Mansouri will also understand the crew’s challenges and triumphs in space. He will ensure consistency during the mission and track the full arc of an increment from the perspective of the crew. Speaking about this milestone achievement, Al Mansouri, said, “I am honoured to facilitate seamless information exchange between the Astronauts Office and the ISS Expedition team.”
Salem Al Marri, director general of Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, said Maj Al Mansouri’s appointment was a “testament to his exceptional skills and knowledge”.

Expedition 69 includes astronauts Sultan AlNeyadi, Stephen Bowen, Warren Hoburg, Frank Rubio, Dmitri Petelin, Sergey Prokopyev, and Andrey Fedyaev and Al Mansouri, with his exceptional skills and knowledge, will help the team conduct ground-breaking experiments that will broaden our knowledge of space and understanding of life in microgravity.
