Emirates Cancels Flights to Hong Kong and Shenzhen Amid Super Typhoon Ragasa

Dubai’s flagship airline suspends services on key Asian routes this week due to safety concerns.

Emirates has cancelled several flights to Hong Kong and Shenzhen between 23 and 25 September 2025 as Super Typhoon Ragasa moves across East Asia. The airline confirmed that multiple services operating from Dubai International Airport (DXB) have been suspended as a precautionary measure.

The cancellations include both outbound and return flights, as well as the airline’s connecting shuttle between Hong Kong and Bangkok. Emirates has stated that safety remains the top priority, with operations expected to resume once conditions improve.

Impact on Travellers from Dubai

Passengers travelling through Dubai with final destinations of Hong Kong and Shenzhen will not be accepted for boarding at their point of origin during this period. This is a temporary measure to avoid further disruption, as the affected airports remain on high alert.

Routes to Guangzhou, however, continue to operate as scheduled. Emirates has reassured passengers that the airline will closely monitor the situation and provide timely updates.

Guidance for Affected Passengers

Emirates has requested that passengers who are booked on the affected flights take the following steps:

  • Reconfirm or change travel plans using the Manage Your Booking tool.
  • Ensure that contact details are updated to receive the latest notifications.
  • Contact Emirates or travel agencies directly for rebooking or refund options.

The airline has also apologised for the disruption, assuring passengers that teams are working to minimise inconvenience.

Ongoing Situation in Asia

Super Typhoon Ragasa has already impacted several countries in East and Southeast Asia, bringing powerful winds and heavy rainfall. Authorities in Hong Kong and Shenzhen have taken precautionary measures, including suspending transport links and advising residents to stay indoors.

Emirates’ decision reflects the need for caution, with passenger safety and operational security at the centre of its response.

When Flights Could Resume

Authorities in the region expect the storm to pass within days, after which flight schedules may gradually return to normal. Emirates has confirmed that regular updates will be issued, and flights will resume only once airports reopen and conditions stabilise.

For travellers in Dubai, it is vital to monitor updates closely and adjust plans early. While the cancellations cause short-term disruption, the decision underscores a commitment to passenger safety. Emirates will continue to assess developments in Asia and resume services as soon as possible.
