UAE: Residents Expected to Have Up to 9-Day Break for Eid Al Fitr Celebrations – dates revealed!

As the UAE gears up for the upcoming Eid Al Fitr celebrations, residents are eagerly awaiting what could potentially be a nineday break in April. This Islamic festival marks the end of Ramadan, a sacred month of fasting and spiritual reflection for Muslims around the world.

Expecting Extended Break

Residents can look forward to an extended break from Ramadan 29 to Shawwal 3 to observe Eid Al Fitr, according to the UAE government’s holiday schedule. However, the exact length of the holiday hinges on whether Ramadan lasts for 29 or 30 days.

Two Scenarios for the Holiday

If Ramadan extends for 30 days, the Eid break is set to begin on Monday, April 8 (Ramadan 29), and conclude on Friday, April 12 (Shawwal 3). This would give residents a total of nine days off, including the weekends before and after the break, from Saturday, April 6, to Sunday, April 14.

Should Ramadan last for 29 days, the Eid break will be slightly shorter, running from Monday, April 8, to Thursday, April 11. With the inclusion of the preceding weekend, residents will still enjoy a six-day hiatus, from Saturday, April 6, to Thursday, April 11.

Other Upcoming Holidays

The anticipated Eid break follows the New Year holiday on January 1 and precedes future breaks for Eid Al Adha in June, Islamic New Year in July, Prophet Muhammad’s birthday in September, and UAE National Day in December.

Significance of Eid Al Fitr

The sighting of the crescent Moon in the UAE on March 10 marked the beginning of Ramadan on March 11, in accordance with Islamic tradition. The duration of Ramadan, whether 29 or 30 days, will determine the exact date of Eid Al Fitr, with celebrations expected on either April 9 or April 10.
