In a bid to make Dubai even more bike-friendly, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened up two brand-new cycling paths, totaling 7 kilometers, in Al Khawaneej and Mushrif, two of the city’s bustling residential areas.
Encouraging Healthier Lifestyles
These new cycling tracks are part of Dubai’s push to encourage healthier lifestyles and improve the city’s infrastructure. By providing safe and accessible routes for cyclists, the aim is to promote cycling as both a means of transport and a recreational activity.
Aligned with Dubai’s Urban Plan 2040
This initiative falls in line with Dubai’s long-term vision outlined in the Dubai Urban Plan 2040, which focuses on sustainable urban development and enhancing mobility options. The expansion of cycling infrastructure is a key component of this plan, reflecting Dubai’s commitment to creating a greener and more sustainable city.
Contribution to Existing Network
With the addition of these tracks, the total length of cycling paths in Al Khawaneej and Mushrif now stands at 39 kilometers. This bolsters Dubai’s existing network of cycling tracks, which spans an impressive 544 kilometers across the city. The ultimate goal is to extend this network to 1,000 kilometers by 2030, providing even more opportunities for residents to cycle safely.
Timely Completion for Ramadan
The timing of this project’s completion couldn’t be better, as it coincides with the onset of Ramadan. With Ramadan being a time when many people engage in outdoor activities, these new cycling tracks offer residents a fantastic opportunity to stay active and enjoy the outdoors during this festive season.

Accessible Routes for Cyclists
The first track begins at Qur’anic Park on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, extending to Al Khawaneej Street, with a connection to the existing cycling track via a pedestrian and cyclists bridge. Meanwhile, the second track starts near Crocodile Park at Mushrif Park, running along Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street before crossing Al Khawaneej Street to link up with the cycling track in Al Khawaneej.
Enhancing Quality of Life
Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the board of executive directors of the RTA, emphasized the positive impact these new tracks will have on the quality of life in Dubai. He highlighted that the expansion of cycling infrastructure is part of a broader master plan to connect key districts of the emirate and promote sustainable modes of transportation.
Towards a Greener Future
As Dubai continues to prioritize sustainable urban development, initiatives like these cycling tracks play a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions, easing traffic congestion, and promoting healthier lifestyles. By investing in cycling infrastructure, Dubai is taking significant steps towards building a greener, more livable city for all its residents.
