Key Roads Targeted for Better Flow
Several of Dubai’s busiest routes are being reconfigured to improve traffic movement. Among the streets identified for upgrades are:
- Jumeirah Village Circle towards Hessa Street
- Ras Al Khor Road
- Al Thanya Street
- King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street
Additional changes are set to impact:
- Al Meydan Street
- Al Sa’ada Street
- Al Asayel Street
- The intersection of Al Wasl Street and Al Manara Street
These enhancements will address chronic bottlenecks and significantly reduce journey times across these high-traffic corridors.
Focus on Safer, Smarter School Zones
As part of the initiative, the RTA is focusing on traffic improvements in nine school zones to enhance safety during drop-off and pick-up times.
Key upgrades include:
- Improved traffic access at Al Warqa 1 school complex
- A second bus entrance for GEMS School in Al Warqa 3
- Widened access roads around The English College in Al Safa
- A new pedestrian crossing on Al Seedaf Street in Al Barsha, aimed at easing morning congestion and protecting students
These changes ease vehicle flow and reduce risks in areas with high pedestrian activity.
Development Zones Set for Better Connectivity
Five major development areas across Dubai will also benefit from targeted traffic improvements. These areas play a vital role in accommodating Dubai’s rapid urban growth and workforce mobility.
Planned enhancements include:
- A direct access route to labour accommodation in Al Muhaisnah from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road
- Upgrades to Al Mustaqbal Street, a key link in the city’s central zone
- Intersection enhancements at Nad Al Hamar junction, near the well-known Lootah Mosque
In addition, authorities will introduce new parking spaces at Zayed Educational Complex in Oud Al Muteena to improve accessibility and ease congestion during busy periods.
Internal Road Upgrades in Residential and Creative Zones
Traffic improvements also extend to residential and creative communities, focusing on internal road networks and pavements to improve local mobility and walkability.
Roadworks and pavement upgrades are scheduled for:
- Tolerance District
- Al Khawaneej 2
- Jebel Ali Industrial Area 1
- Nad Al Sheba
- Al Warqa
- Al Quoz Creative Zone
These enhancements will support safer travel within communities, promote smoother vehicle access, and facilitate pedestrian movement, particularly in fast-growing districts.
Supporting Dubai’s Long-Term Urban Mobility Vision
This summer’s traffic upgrade project is part of Dubai’s larger mobility transformation strategy aligned with the city’s long-term Urban Master Plan 2040. As Dubai expands, such targeted improvements are vital to maintaining efficient transport systems and ensuring a high quality of life for residents and commuters.
The upgrades complement the city’s recently announced 57 new road projects, all contributing to a more connected, accessible, and sustainable urban environment.
What Can you expect During the Works
While these enhancements will bring long-term benefits, the project period may cause short-term disruptions such as temporary detours, road closures, and speed adjustments.
Motorists are advised to:
- Stay updated via official traffic advisories
- Follow detour signs and obey posted speed limits in work zones
- Plan additional travel time, especially in school or high-traffic areas
The RTA will provide continuous updates to help residents navigate the temporary changes smoothly.
From major road arteries to school zones and residential areas, Dubai’s traffic improvement programme this summer will cover a wide range of locations to streamline commutes and improve overall road safety.
For those navigating the city daily, the upgrades may bring some short-term inconveniences, but they’re paving the way for a more efficient, accessible, and commuter-friendly future.
