Dubai traffic improvement: RTA’s new Nad Al Hamar lane to cut travel time by 27%

RTA launches rapid upgrade linking Ras Al Khor Road to Nad Al Hamar Intersection to ease congestion and boost road capacity.

The Roads and Transport Authority has begun a new phase of its Rapid Traffic Improvements – Summer 2025 Plan, focusing on a busy corridor connecting Ras Al Khor Road to Nad Al Hamar Intersection.

The project involves constructing an 850-metre additional lane and expanding the storage lane for vehicles turning left from Al Rebat Street. These changes are aimed at reducing evening peak travel times by more than a quarter and raising the road’s capacity by a third.

Once complete, the upgrades will increase capacity from around 4,800 to 6,400 vehicles per hour. Residents and professionals using the route daily will experience a 27% improvement in evening rush travel time, as it drops from approximately 15 minutes to 11 minutes.

This stretch serves commuters heading to and from key areas, including Al Rashidiya, Al Qusais, and Dubai International Airport, making the project’s impact city-wide.

Key changes under the plan

  • New 850-metre lane from Ras Al Khor Road to Nad Al Hamar Intersection.
  • Widened the left-turn storage lane from Al Rebat Street to ease queuing.
  • Increased traffic throughput by 33% during peak hours.

These works are part of a broader programme targeting high-traffic areas where relatively short-term construction can yield immediate benefits for road users.

Designed for quick delivery

Unlike major long-term road expansions, this initiative is structured for rapid completion. The RTA expects the Nad Al Hamar improvements to be ready by the end of August 2025, ensuring drivers benefit within weeks rather than years.

The RTA encourages commuters to stay updated through its announcements and adjust their travel times where possible to avoid any temporary diversions during construction.
