Dubai is a futuristic city and this has only been proved right time and again. The city always provided the best when it comes to infrastructure, technology and transport- thereby providing a lifestyle like no other. And now, in another ‘futuristic’ attempt, the Dubai RTA has announced that it will soon use AI technology to analyse traffic and reduce congestion on roads.
In collaboration with top global firms, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a comprehensive Enterprise Platform for designing and developing world-class AI and data science solutions.
It is distinguished by an exceptional ability to process and restructure RTA-owned data in order to train machine learning models that foster innovation and leadership across a wide range of operations, including predictive maintenance for roads and bridges, public transportation route planning, crowd management, and more.
how does the new platform help in dubai’s AI Roadmap?
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority said that the launch of the platform is an effort to make Dubai the smartest city in the world, by employing artificial intelligence to improve the quality of life of the population and enhance sustainability and efficiency. By leveraging AI, the platform aims to foster residents’ well-being and boost sustainability and service efficiency.
Tayer further added that Dubai RTA boasts one of the UAE’s largest big data platforms in terms of storage capacity. It has been linked with the AI platform, to benefit from the existing historical data and develop use cases that meet RTA’s strategic and operational requirements.
The artificial intelligence platform acts as a foundation for undertaking a range of projects within RTA’s AI project roadmap. It covers more than 100 use cases across various domains that cover predictive maintenance for RTA’s assets and properties as well as offering AI-integrated smart services to enhance both customer and employee experiences and expedite the processing of administrative tasks.
The use of predictive maintenance of roads and bridges, public transportation network planning, and crowd management are key use cases that mark RTA’s direction of incorporating AI technologies in all systems by 2031.
The artificial intelligence platform is unique in its ability to train deep machine learning models and also provides many algorithms that are used in machine learning without the need to write code sources.
The platform also includes a mechanism for comparing algorithm performance in terms of speed and accuracy, allowing users to choose the best one for their needs.
It also enables RTA to create AI use cases, integrate them into various systems such as websites and digital apps, monitor machine learning model performance, and implement an interpretive mechanism for AI model decisions. As a result, it ensures that AI models do not make decisions that are inconsistent with the Dubai Digital Authority’s AI principles and ethics.
The RTA has trained a number of national cadres from the leadership, supervisory, and technical categories, to enable them to analyze data and extract information that contributes to supporting decision-making, and to develop use cases on the authority’s artificial intelligence platform, to double reliance on the authority’s internal cadres in development.
