Dubai Police Issue Fresh Alert on Work Visa Scams

Authorities flag fake job offers and visa shortcuts circulating on WhatsApp and social media, urging verification through official channels only

Dubai Police have once again warned residents and jobseekers to stay alert as work visa scams resurface across the city. The fraud follows a familiar pattern. Big promises. Quick approvals. Guaranteed jobs. And a fee that must be paid “today”.

Authorities say the reality is far from what’s promised. No visa. No job. And once the money is transferred, the fraudster usually disappears without a trace.

The warning comes under Dubai Police’s ongoing Beware of Fraud campaign, which focuses on protecting residents from financial loss and identity misuse. Officials are urging anyone who comes across suspicious visa offers to report them immediately through official reporting platforms.

How These Visa Scams Are Targeting People in Dubai?

According to Dubai Police, scammers are approaching victims through WhatsApp messages, social media posts, online classifieds, and even word-of-mouth referrals. Many claim to be recruitment agents, immigration consultants, or representatives of well-known companies.

The pitch often sounds convincing.
Fast-track visa.”
“Minimal paperwork.”
“Inside access.”

Some even promise employment before an interview takes place.

To appear genuine, fraudsters may share fake offer letters, forged stamps, and documents that look official at first glance. Once trust is built, they ask for an upfront payment to “start the process”.

Dubai Police stress that this is usually the first red flag. Legitimate work visas in the UAE do not work this way.

Who Is Most at Risk Right Now?

Authorities say jobseekers looking for quick employment are the most vulnerable. This includes fresh graduates, residents switching jobs, and overseas applicants unfamiliar with UAE labour laws.

Many victims are people eager to start work quickly or secure better opportunities. Scammers take advantage of that urgency.

Dubai Police remind residents that no employer or agent can legally guarantee a UAE work visa without following government procedures. Anyone claiming otherwise should not be trusted.

Only Official Channels Can Issue Work Visas

Dubai Police have made one point very clear.
There are no shortcuts.

Work visas in the UAE are processed only through authorised government systems and licensed entities. The process includes verified documentation, approvals, medical checks, and labour contracts.

Any offer that claims to bypass these steps is not “special access”. It is fraud.

Residents are advised to verify visa-related information only through official platforms, accredited typing centres, or government-approved channels. Screenshots, voice notes, and informal messages are not proof of legitimacy.

This advice also applies to online job ads that demand processing fees upfront. Such requests should raise immediate concern.

Part of the ‘Beware of Fraud’ Campaign

The alert forms part of Dubai Police’s broader Beware of Fraud initiative, which focuses on public awareness and early reporting. Authorities say scammers often create pressure to force quick decisions.

  • Limited slots.
  • Urgent deadlines.
  • Offers expiring within hours.

Dubai Police remind residents that genuine government processes do not rush applicants or demand instant payments. Taking time to verify details can prevent serious losses later.

How to Report a Work Visa Scam in Dubai?

Dubai Police urge residents not to stay silent if they come across a suspected scam. Even if no money has been lost, reporting helps authorities identify patterns and protect others.

Visa fraud can be reported through:

  • The Dubai Police smart app
  • The eCrime platform
  • Calling 901 for non-emergency support

Early reporting plays a key role in stopping fraud networks before more people are affected.

Beyond financial damage, work visa scams often involve misuse of personal data. Victims may share passport copies, Emirates ID details, or personal contact information.

Dubai Police warn that this information can later be used for identity theft or further fraud. Residents are advised never to share personal documents unless dealing with verified and licensed authorities.

Residents Should Remember

Dubai’s job market is highly regulated. These systems exist to protect both employers and employees. When official procedures are followed, the risk of fraud drops significantly.

If a visa offer sounds too easy, instant, or guaranteed, it needs verification. Paying money before any official process begins is a strong warning sign.

Staying cautious, asking questions, and using official channels remain the best defence.
