Dubai Increases Parking Fees During Major Events – What You Need to Know

Dubai hikes parking fees at event venues to ease congestion

Dubai has introduced higher parking fees in key event areas, starting today, February 17, 2025. The new rates will significantly impact drivers heading to the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and other major event venues.

Parkin, the city’s primary parking operator, has confirmed that parking fees around the DWTC will now be AED 25 per hour during events. This is a substantial jump from the previous charges, which started at AED 2 for 30 minutes and capped at AED 16 for four hours.

Why Have the Parking Fees Increased?

The change is part of a broader strategy to ease congestion and improve traffic management in high-demand areas. Major events at the DWTC, including exhibitions and trade shows, often attract heavy traffic. To counter this, the increased parking fees aim to encourage visitors to use public transportation instead.

Dubai’s transport authority has been implementing several changes over the past year, including variable toll gate fees for Salik and adjustments to public parking rates. These updates are designed to improve overall urban mobility and reduce unnecessary congestion.

Where Will the New Parking Rates Apply?

The new event-based parking tariff will apply to the Grand Event Zone surrounding the DWTC. Similar pricing structures may be introduced for other event zones across the city in the future.

In addition to event-specific charges, Dubai is also rolling out premium parking zones in high-traffic areas. Starting in March 2025, premium parking rates will be:

  • AED 6 per hour during peak hours (8:00 AM – 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM).
  • AED 4 per hour in standard zones during peak times.
  • Free parking overnight (10:00 PM – 8:00 AM) and on Sundays/public holidays remains unchanged.

These adjustments ensure that parking availability is optimized while also encouraging the use of public transport options like the Dubai Metro, RTA buses, and taxis.

How Will This Affect Motorists?

Drivers who frequently visit Downtown Dubai, Business Bay, Jumeirah, Deira, and Bur Dubai should prepare for changes in parking fees. Those who attend exhibitions and events at the DWTC will need to plan ahead to avoid higher parking costs.

Motorists are advised to:

  • Use public transport when attending events to save on parking fees.
  • Plan trips during off-peak hours to benefit from lower parking rates.
  • Stay updated on new parking zones through official announcements.

A Shift Towards Smarter Parking Solutions

Dubai’s ongoing transportation updates reflect a long-term vision of efficient urban planning. By introducing dynamic parking fees, authorities aim to reduce traffic congestion, improve accessibility, and promote sustainable commuting options.

The new parking policy is expected to ease traffic flow in key business and event districts while encouraging more eco-friendly travel alternatives.
