Dubai’s road network continues to grow as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) opens two new bridges under the Sheikh Rashid Corridor project. The latest upgrade is part of the ongoing Oud Maitha and Al Asayel Streets Development Project, which aims to ease traffic and improve connectivity between some of the city’s busiest districts.
For drivers who regularly pass through Oud Maitha and surrounding areas, the improvement could make daily commutes much smoother. Once the entire project is completed, travel time through the corridor is expected to drop from around 20 minutes to just five minutes.
The bridges are now open to traffic and already helping create more direct connections between key roads in central Dubai.
New Bridge Connections Between Key Dubai Roads
The two newly opened bridges are designed to streamline traffic flow across important routes that connect several busy neighbourhoods.
One of the bridges allows vehicles travelling from Al Asayel Street toward Al Wasl Club Street, offering easier access to nearby residential areas and local facilities.
The second bridge connects Al Asayel Street to Al Khail Road in the direction of Business Bay Crossing. This route is expected to reduce congestion at nearby intersections and provide a faster alternative for drivers heading towards Business Bay and central Dubai.
For many motorists who drive through this part of the city daily, these new connections mean fewer traffic bottlenecks and a more direct route between major roads.
A Major Project That Is Already 72% Complete
The bridges are part of the wider Sheikh Rashid Corridor project, a large-scale road development aimed at improving traffic flow across several central districts in Dubai.
According to the RTA, around 72 percent of the overall project has already been completed, with several key upgrades still under construction.
One of the most important upcoming additions is a tunnel that will connect Dubai–Al Ain Road to the Oud Maitha service road. The tunnel is currently about 70 percent complete and will add another alternative route for drivers moving between western Dubai and the city centre.
Additional bridges and road expansions are also underway and are expected to open later this year.
Improved Connectivity for Key Neighbourhoods
The project is expected to benefit several major neighbourhoods located along the corridor.
These include:
- Za’abeel
- Al Jaddaf
- Oud Maitha
- Umm Hurair
These districts are home to residential communities, offices, healthcare facilities and sports venues. One of the key landmarks in the area is Latifa Hospital, which attracts daily traffic from across Dubai.
The project will also improve access to Al Wasl Club, a well-known sports and community destination.
With better connectivity between these areas, drivers should experience smoother travel and fewer delays when moving between central Dubai districts.
Road Capacity to Increase Significantly
One of the main objectives of the Sheikh Rashid Corridor project is to increase the capacity of the road network in this area.
Currently, Oud Maitha Street handles around 10,400 vehicles per hour in both directions. Once the project is fully completed, this capacity is expected to increase to 15,600 vehicles per hour.
That increase will help accommodate the growing number of vehicles on Dubai’s roads while reducing congestion during peak hours.
The biggest benefit for commuters will likely be the reduced travel time. Journeys that currently take about 20 minutes could soon take only five minutes, making daily travel through the corridor far more efficient.
A Wider Plan to Support Dubai’s Growth
Beyond the two bridges already opened, the overall development includes several additional upgrades that will transform the corridor.
The project features:
- Improvements to four major intersections
- Construction of around 4.3 kilometres of tunnels
- Development of approximately 14 kilometres of upgraded roads
Together, these improvements are designed to create a more efficient traffic network across central Dubai.
As the city continues to grow and new communities emerge, expanding road infrastructure remains a priority for authorities to ensure smoother mobility across the emirate.
The opening of two new bridges under the Sheikh Rashid Corridor project is another step forward in improving Dubai’s road infrastructure.
While the project is still in progress, the newly opened routes are already helping create faster connections between Al Asayel Street, Al Khail Road and surrounding neighbourhoods.
Once all stages of the project are completed, commuters travelling through Oud Maitha and nearby areas can expect significantly shorter journeys and a more efficient road network.
