Dubai Prepares for New Year’s Eve with Road Closures and Safety Measures

As the countdown to the New Year begins, Dubai has unveiled a well-structured safety and traffic management plan to ensure a smooth and enjoyable celebration for all. With grand fireworks displays and events planned across the city, including at the Burj Khalifa, authorities are taking every step to prioritize safety and convenience for residents and visitors.

Road Closures to Keep in Mind

To manage the expected crowds in key celebration areas, Dubai has announced several road closures starting December 31:

  • Al Asayel Street: Closed from 4:00 PM from Oud Metha Road to Burj Khalifa Street.
  • Downtown Dubai Streets: Roads like Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard and Burj Khalifa Street will close once parking spaces are full.
  • Financial Centre Streets: Lower and Upper Financial Centre Streets will be closed from 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM, respectively.

Visitors heading to these areas are advised to arrive before 4:00 PM to avoid any inconvenience.

Extended Public Transport Timings

To ease travel, public transportation will operate extended hours:

  • Dubai Metro: The Red and Green Lines will run continuously for 43 hours from 5:00 AM on December 31. The Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station will close early due to high footfall.
  • Dubai Tram: Operating non-stop from 6:00 AM on December 31.
  • Shuttle Buses: Free shuttle buses will be available to transport visitors from designated parking areas to celebration zones.
  • Taxis: With 29,000 taxis operating citywide, residents and tourists can expect seamless travel options.

First Aid and Emergency Preparedness

Dubai is setting up comprehensive medical support to ensure public safety during the festivities:

  • Support Tents: Temporary tents will provide first aid, lost and found services, and assistance for lost individuals.
  • Field Hospital: A medical facility near Burj Khalifa with dedicated emergency rooms and specialists will be operational.
  • Medical Points: Seven stations across the city will offer immediate assistance.
  • Telemedicine Services: Residents can access homecare and remote medical consultations by contacting 80060.

Special Arrangements for Maritime Celebrations

For those celebrating on Dubai’s waters, the Dubai Police has introduced the “Sail Safely” service. This feature allows boaters to register their trip details and seek emergency assistance using an SOS option.

Dedicated Worker Celebration Zones

Recognizing the city’s hardworking labor force, Dubai has established exclusive celebration zones for workers in areas like Al Quoz and Jebel Ali. These zones will offer entertainment, fireworks screens, and prize giveaways to ensure everyone enjoys the festivities.

Tips for a Safe and Enjoyable New Year’s Eve

  • Arrive Early: Beat the crowds by heading to celebration zones ahead of time.
  • Use Public Transport: Take advantage of extended metro and tram timings to avoid traffic congestion.
  • Stay Updated: Follow official announcements for real-time updates on road closures and transport schedules.
  • Dress Comfortably: Prepare for outdoor conditions and extended hours of celebration.
  • Emergency Contacts: In case of emergencies, dial 999 for urgent assistance or 901 for non-critical matters.

By adhering to these guidelines and cooperating with authorities, everyone can contribute to a safe and memorable New Year’s Eve in Dubai.
