Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has expanded the Red Line operations with three new direct routes designed to ease commuter flow during peak hours. The changes took effect this week and are aimed at making travel smoother for residents and visitors who depend on the Metro for their daily journeys.
The busiest times on the Metro, between 7 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 8 pm, often see heavy crowds and longer wait times. The new direct services are expected to reduce congestion, cut journey times, and provide passengers with greater flexibility.
The three new direct Red Line routes
With the update, trains on the Red Line now run on these routes:
- Centrepoint Station to Life Pharmacy Station
- Centrepoint Station to Expo City and back
- Centrepoint Station to Al Fardan Exchange (Al Khail) and back during peak hours
By splitting services across multiple destinations, the RTA aims to distribute passenger loads more effectively. This ensures commuters heading to central hubs or Expo City can board less crowded trains without delays.
Commuter benefits and feedback
Early passenger feedback highlights smoother boarding, shorter wait times, and easier travel. Many riders who previously had to wait longer for direct services are now experiencing faster turnarounds, with trains arriving every few minutes during rush periods.
The additional Centrepoint–Al Fardan Exchange service is particularly helpful for commuters travelling within central Dubai, as it avoids the need to go all the way to the end stations.
Impact on daily commutes

For the thousands of residents who rely on the Metro every day, the new routes are already making a difference. Peak-hour bottlenecks at busy interchange stations are easing, with smoother passenger movement across platforms.
Commuters travelling towards Expo City or Al Khail areas no longer face long waits for direct services, while those bound for central Dubai are benefiting from reduced crowding. With shorter intervals between trains and more balanced passenger loads, journeys are becoming more predictable and less stressful.
Additional upgrades across the network
Alongside the new routes, the RTA has introduced improved signage and wayfinding tools across Metro stations. Clearer floor stickers, directional arrows, and platform guidance are now helping passengers navigate more easily, particularly at interchange points.
These small but effective improvements contribute to a smoother experience and demonstrate how the city continues to refine its public transport system to meet the needs of a growing population.
Metro expansion plans ahead
Since its launch in 2009, the Dubai Metro has become a vital part of the city’s transportation landscape. The Red Line was the first to open, followed by the Green Line in 2011, both growing in step with Dubai’s rapid urban development.
Looking forward, the next major milestone will be the Blue Line, scheduled to open in 2029. Spanning more than 30 kilometres with 14 new stations, the line will connect areas such as Mirdif, Dubai Creek Harbour, and Global Village. This expansion reflects Dubai’s long-term commitment to sustainable mobility and its 2040 Urban Master Plan.
With three new direct routes during peak hours, the Dubai Metro Red Line is offering commuters a faster, less crowded, and more reliable service. These changes underline the RTA’s ongoing efforts to enhance daily journeys and strengthen Dubai’s position as a city with world-class public transport.
