Prioritizing Passenger Safety
The RTA made this decision because they want to make sure everyone using public transportation stays safe. They want passengers to feel secure while traveling around Dubai. They even used the hashtag #YourSafetyOurPriority to stress how important safety is for them.
What’s Changing?
Before this decision, it was common to see people bringing their foldable e-scooters onto the metro and tram. They found it a convenient way to get around quickly within the city. But now, as of March 1, 2024, this won’t be allowed anymore.
Where Can You Use E-Scooters?
Although e-scooters are not allowed inside the metro carriages, you can still bring them into metro stations. The catch is they must be folded and follow all safety instructions. So, if you use an e-scooter, you can still take it with you—it just needs to be folded up.

Why the Change?
The decision came after a concerning incident earlier this year at the Onpassive metro station. There was a problem with an electric scooter that caused smoke, leading to significant delays. The RTA wants to avoid such incidents in the future.
Keeping an Eye on Safety
To ensure rules are followed, the RTA announced they would trial a monitoring robot. This robot will help keep an eye on e-scooters and bikes in the city, making sure everyone follows the safety guidelines.
What’s Next?
While some commuters might find this change inconvenient, the RTA’s goal is to make sure everyone travels safely. They encourage people to explore other eco-friendly transportation options available in Dubai.
As Dubai continues to grow and evolve, safety remains a top priority. The ban on e-scooters aboard the Dubai Metro and tram is just one step in ensuring a secure and efficient public transportation system for everyone.
