The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced road traffic diversions in key areas as construction on the Dubai Metro Blue Line moves forward. The latest update affects International City 1 in front of Dragon Mart, along with access points at Centrepoint Metro Station.
These diversions are part of the ongoing expansion programme that will add 30 kilometres of new track and connect residential and commercial communities to the city’s existing Metro network.

Motorists face diversions near Dragon Mart
In International City 1, traffic has been diverted around Dragon Mart to make way for excavation and construction work. New signboards have been installed to guide vehicles across alternate routes. The authority has urged drivers to remain alert to the changes and adjust their journeys accordingly.
For daily commuters who rely on this busy corridor, the diversions may increase travel time during peak hours. Drivers should set off earlier than usual to avoid congestion.
Access changes at Centrepoint Station
In Al Rashidiya, another key change has been announced around Centrepoint Metro Station, where the main entrance to the multi-storey car park from Airport Road is now closed. Motorists must instead use Exit 1 to access the facility.
To improve flow and minimize disruption around construction, officials shifted taxi ranks, previously located at the front of the station, to the rear along 49C Street.
RTA’s advice for a smoother journey
The RTA has issued clear guidelines for motorists travelling through the affected zones.
- Plan trips in advance: Leave earlier than usual and factor in extra travel time.
- Follow the signboards: Directional signs have been placed near all diversions to ease movement.
- Use alternative routes: Where possible, avoid bottlenecks by choosing side roads or parallel streets.
- Avoid peak hours: Morning and evening rush hours are expected to be more congested.
By following these steps, commuters can reduce delays and ensure safer travel while work on the Blue Line progresses.
Dubai metro blue line

The Dubai Metro Blue Line will stretch 30 kilometres and feature 14 stations, including two interchange stations connecting with the existing Red and Green lines. The route will serve busy residential and commercial areas such as Mirdif, Al Warqa, International City, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Academic City.
With an estimated budget of AED 20.5 billion, the project is designed to ease pressure on Dubai’s roads and provide faster connections across emerging communities. Once operational in 2029, the Blue Line is expected to play a major role in reducing congestion and strengthening the city’s public transport network.
Staying informed is the key
The current diversions near Dragon Mart and Centrepoint Station are only the first phase of broader adjustments expected as construction continues. For motorists, the best approach is to stay updated, plan ahead, and follow the directions put in place by RTA.
Dubai’s expanding Metro network promises long-term benefits, but in the short term, commuters will need to adapt to temporary inconveniences.
