Prepare for Road Closures During Dubai Marathon

The Dubai Marathon 2025 will take place on Sunday, January 12. This iconic event will see runners worldwide gathering to challenge themselves and enjoy the scenic city route. While the event promotes fitness and community spirit, it also comes with significant road closures that motorists should prepare for.

Road Closures During Dubai Marathon

To ensure the safety of participants, major roads will be temporarily closed from 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Key areas affected include:

  • Umm Suqeim Road
  • Jumeirah Beach Road
  • Al Wasl Road

Drivers are advised to plan their journeys and consider using alternative routes such as Al Khail Road or Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

Traffic will be managed by Dubai Police and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to ensure minimal inconvenience during the event.

Route Highlights

The marathon route begins and ends near the Dubai Police Academy on Umm Suqeim Road. Participants will pass some of Dubai’s most iconic landmarks, including:

  • Burj Al Arab
  • Madinat Jumeirah
  • Jumeirah Beach Hotel

The full marathon spans 42.195 km, with two additional categories:

  • 10 km Road Race: Starts at 8:15 AM
  • 4 km Fun Run: Starts at 10:30 AM

How to Reach the Event

To avoid last-minute stress, participants and spectators are encouraged to use public transport or pre-book taxis.

  • Metro Access: The Mall of the Emirates Metro Station is within walking distance of the start point.
  • Parking: Limited parking is available near the event location, so it’s best to avoid driving if possible.

Race Pack Collection

Runners can collect their race packs, including t-shirts and bibs, from the Adidas store in Dubai Mall. Collection times are as follows:

  • Wednesday, January 8: 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM
  • Thursday, January 9 to Friday, January 10: 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM
  • Saturday, January 11: 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Ensure you bring valid identification for smooth collection.

Tips for a Safe and Enjoyable Race

Participating in a marathon requires preparation. Here are a few essential tips:

  • Stay Hydrated: Carry water or use hydration stations along the route.
  • Dress Appropriately: Wear lightweight, breathable clothing suitable for the weather.
  • Warm Up and Cool Down: Stretch before and after the run to prevent injuries.
  • Rest Well: Get plenty of sleep before and after the event to recover.

Alternative Routes for Motorists

Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes like Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road. Public buses may have altered schedules, so checking for updates beforehand is recommended.

Join the Excitement

The Dubai Marathon is more than just a race; it’s a celebration of health and perseverance. While road closures may temporarily affect travel, the event showcases Dubai’s commitment to promoting an active lifestyle.
