Capacity and Convenience
One of the standout features of this engineering marvel is its remarkable capacity. With four lanes in each direction, the Dubai Islands Bridge can effortlessly accommodate an astounding 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions. This substantial increase in capacity promises to alleviate the persistent traffic congestion that plagues the area, providing smoother and faster travel for all.
Promoting Sustainability and Inclusivity: Pedestrian and Cyclist Lane
In a commendable nod to sustainability and inclusivity, the Dubai Islands Bridge project includes a dedicated lane for cyclists and pedestrians. This forward-thinking addition encourages alternative modes of transportation and promotes a healthier lifestyle. Complementing this, two elevators will be strategically installed at both ends of the bridge, ensuring seamless mobility between the bridge and the ground.
Seamless Integration: Expanding Surface Roads
The Dubai Islands Bridge project isn’t just about the bridge itself; it’s about enhancing connectivity. To achieve this, the project encompasses the construction of surface roads extending approximately 2,000 meters. These roads will seamlessly connect with existing road networks at both ends of the Dubai Islands and Bur Dubai, ensuring a hassle-free experience for all travelers.
The Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project: A Grand Vision
The Dubai Islands Bridge is an integral part of the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project, one of the most ambitious initiatives by the RTA. With a total estimated cost of Dh5.3 billion, this colossal project includes the construction of 15 intersections spanning 13 kilometers. This corridor will serve Deira and Bur Dubai, as well as several high-profile development projects like Dubai Islands, Dubai Seafront, Dubai Maritime City, and Port Rashid.

Over 20 years, the time saved is expected to be worth about Dh45 billion, underlining the remarkable economic benefits of this visionary initiative.
A Shared Vision: Collaboration for Success
The formal agreement to construct the Dubai Islands Bridge was solidified by Mattar Al Tayer, RTA director general and chairman of the board of executive directors, and Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, chairman of the board of directors of Nakheel. Al Tayer emphasized the project’s importance in providing entrances and exits to Dubai Islands, building upon the successful RTA-Nakheel partnership established in 2020.
Al Shaibani added that the Dubai Islands will soon be easily accessible by both land and sea, thanks to well-planned road bridges and water transport.
