One of Dubai’s busiest junctions is set to breathe easier. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed that the long-awaited upgrade at the Street 13 exit in Dubai Healthcare City will be completed by 20 July 2025. The improvements aim to reduce congestion by up to 50%, delivering faster and more efficient access in and out of the area.
Why this area needed attention
Street 13 connects Dubai Healthcare City with key arterial roads, including Oud Metha and Sheikh Rashid. It’s a crucial stretch for thousands who commute daily to hospitals, clinics, offices, schools and residences. Over time, the volume of traffic here has led to significant delays—especially during peak hours.
The congestion has not only disrupted daily life but also posed challenges for emergency services and patient transport. Recognising the urgency, the RTA designed a targeted solution to improve vehicle flow without major disruption during works.
What the upgrade includes
The project brings structural and functional improvements that focus on easing merging traffic and supporting higher capacity. These include:
- A new acceleration lane to allow smoother merging with mainline traffic without stopping
- Widening of the existing service road from one to two lanes across a 500-metre stretch
- Redesigned entry and exit points to improve circulation and reduce signal waiting times
Once complete, the intersection will be able to handle up to 3,000 vehicles per hour, significantly enhancing traffic movement and minimising bottlenecks.
Real-world benefits for drivers and residents

The improvements are expected to offer tangible relief to those who rely on the area for work, health services or transit. Some of the expected outcomes include:
- Shorter travel time, particularly during school and office rush hours
- Reduced vehicle idling, leading to lower fuel consumption and emissions
- Improved access to healthcare facilities, public transport and nearby neighbourhoods
- Enhanced road safety, with less conflict between merging and through traffic
Medical staff, delivery personnel, and commuters alike will experience more predictable and less frustrating daily journeys thanks to the change.
Part of a wider strategy
This upgrade fits into a broader roadmap focused on improving traffic corridors across the city. Dubai’s expanding infrastructure has led to the continuous enhancement of busy intersections in various districts—each aimed at making the city easier to move around for its growing population.
The RTA has been actively implementing data-driven solutions, applying insights from traffic patterns to guide the redesign of junctions, exits, and service roads. This latest initiative continues that approach, keeping the long-term focus on liveability and mobility.
What to expect in the coming days
With final works underway, including signage, road markings, and traffic light calibration, residents and motorists should remain alert for changes in traffic flow. Once operational, authorities will monitor the upgraded junction closely to ensure it performs as intended.
Motorists are advised to familiarise themselves with the new layout and plan their routes accordingly during the transition period. No full closures are expected, but minor diversions or lane shifts may occur during the last stages of work.
By 20 July, the traffic landscape around Dubai Healthcare City is expected to improve dramatically. The upgraded Street 13 exit will serve as a smoother, safer, and more efficient link for the community, cutting congestion by nearly half. It’s another step forward in making Dubai’s road network more responsive to the needs of its people.
