Dubai has now surpassed 1,270 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, a major leap in its mission to support a low-emissions transport network. The growth is tied to a rapid rise in EV adoption, with more than 40,600 electric vehicles registered in the emirate by the first half of 2025.
The city’s push towards electrified transport is backed by government targets under the Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aim for at least half of all vehicles on UAE roads to be electric or hybrid by mid-century.
Charging Stations Nearly Double in Under a Year
The number of charging points has increased significantly from the previous count of around 740 just earlier this year. This nearly 72% jump comes as a response to mounting EV demand and reflects coordinated efforts between Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), licensed operators, and urban development bodies.
EV Green Charger Network Powers the City

Since the launch of the EV Green Charger initiative in 2014, DEWA has played a pivotal role in establishing a robust public network of charging stations. These include ultra-fast, fast, and standard AC chargers, strategically located at malls, offices, government buildings, and residential areas.
The rollout also includes wall-mounted units for home and private premises, helping create a seamless charging ecosystem for residents and businesses.
Easy Access with Smart Platforms and Guest Mode
EV owners can easily locate charging points using DEWA’s smart app or other connected platforms. Additionally, the introduction of guest mode means that anyone — even without a DEWA account — can access chargers, making it highly convenient for visitors or those new to electric vehicles.
This user-friendly access model supports both residents and short-term visitors, allowing flexibility without extra sign-ups or long processes.
Private Sector Participation Boosts Rollout
While DEWA continues to expand its infrastructure, the emirate has opened the door to licensed private operators. CPOs are actively installing chargers in commercial hubs, busy roads, and neighborhoods.
Key installs at Parkin zones let drivers charge while parked in Dubai’s busiest spots.
A Smart, Connected Future for Clean Transport
The infrastructure push isn’t just about numbers — it’s designed to be smart, accessible and scalable. All DEWA chargers are integrated into a central system that monitors availability, usage, and operational status in real-time. This ensures high reliability and minimal downtime for users.
Most chargers support mid-range speeds of around 22 kW, ideal for topping up during errands or work hours, while fast chargers cater to quicker recharging needs for longer journeys.
The expansion of EV charging in Dubai is directly impacting everyday convenience for locals. From Jumeirah locals to Business Bay expats, drivers now enjoy:
- Wider access to public chargers at shopping centres, offices, and residential hubs
- Faster charging options to reduce wait time and improve efficiency
- More flexible access through guest mode for non-DEWA customers
- A reason to switch to electric with better infrastructure and coverage
Aligned with Dubai’s Green Mobility Goals
This infrastructure upgrade is not a standalone initiative — it’s part of a broader urban transformation plan. The drive to electrify transport aligns with Dubai’s clean energy roadmap and contributes to reducing carbon emissions, improving air quality, and building a sustainable future for the city’s growing population.
The growth of Dubai’s EV charging stations to over 1,270 reflects a forward-thinking commitment to cleaner transport, smart infrastructure, and resident convenience. With smart features, strong regulation, and an expanding user base, the city’s EV ecosystem is ready for the future.
