Cycling and e-scooter use in Dubai are becoming increasingly popular, providing a fun and eco-friendly way to get around. However, safety, especially during nighttime, has been a growing concern. To address this, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has taken a major step by upgrading the lighting on key cycling and e-scooter tracks across the city. This initiative not only ensures safer rides but also supports Dubai’s goal of promoting healthier and more sustainable lifestyles.
The Need for Better Nighttime Lighting
Good lighting is essential for safety when cycling or riding an e-scooter at night. Without it, riders face challenges like poor visibility, which can lead to accidents. This has been a particular issue on some of Dubai’s popular tracks, where riders have struggled to see clearly in the dark, making their journeys more risky.
#RTA has completed the maintenance of 2,173 lighting units across four cycling and e-scooter tracks in Dubai, including Al Qudra, Jumeirah, Nad Al Sheba, and Mirdif & Mushrif cycling and e-scooter tracks. RTA’s Response: Improved Lighting for Safer Rides
Understanding the importance of safety, the RTA has recently completed a project to upgrade the lighting on four major tracks: Al Qudra, Jumeirah, Nad Al Sheba, and Mirdif & Mushrif. A total of 2,173 lighting units were maintained to ensure that these tracks are well-lit and safe for nighttime use. This upgrade makes it easier for cyclists and e-scooter riders to navigate the tracks safely, even after sunset.
Benefits of the Upgraded Lighting
With the new lighting in place, cyclists and e-scooter users can now enjoy their rides without worrying about visibility issues. This upgrade is part of RTA’s efforts to provide quality infrastructure in Dubai. Safer tracks encourage more people to cycle and use e-scooters, promoting eco-friendly transportation.
Community Involvement in RTA’s Efforts
The RTA didn’t work alone on this project. The RTA used feedback from field inspectors and residents through the RTA Call Centre and Madinati service to identify areas needing attention, ensuring the upgrades were effective and met the community’s needs.
A Brighter Future for Dubai’s Cycling and E-Scooter Tracks
The RTA’s lighting upgrades on Dubai’s cycling and e-scooter tracks make these activities safer and more accessible at night, supporting Dubai’s goal of becoming a cyclist-friendly city. Now’s the perfect time to explore these well-lit tracks, whether cycling, riding an e-scooter, or enjoying a nighttime stroll.
