Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled a major infrastructure milestone by opening new bridges and road upgrades under the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project. These enhancements aim to revolutionize the city’s traffic flow, reduce commute times, and support its rapid urban growth.
RTA’s Largest Road Project Yet
The 13-kilometer Al Shindagha Corridor covers Sheikh Rashid Road, Al Mina Street, Al Khaleej Street, and Cairo Street. Designed to handle increasing traffic demands, the project is expected to benefit around one million residents.
Key Features of the New Roads and Bridges
- Three New Dubai Bridges:
- Sheikh Rashid Road to Falcon Interchange: A 1,335-meter bridge with three lanes in each direction handles up to 10,800 vehicles per hour.
- Falcon Interchange to Al Wasl Road: A 780-meter bridge accommodates 5,400 vehicles per hour.
- Jumeirah Street to Al Mina Street: This 985-meter bridge, featuring two lanes, can handle 3,200 vehicles per hour.
- Enhanced Connectivity:
The upgrades include 4.8 kilometers of new road developments, improved surface intersections on Jumeirah Street and Al Mina Street, and additional pedestrian bridges for safer crossing. - Infinity Bridge:
Standing as a symbol of Dubai’s boundless ambitions, the Infinity Bridge is an architectural marvel with six lanes in each direction. Its unique design, shaped like the infinity symbol (?), also includes a dedicated pedestrian and cyclist path.
Benefits for Residents and Businesses
The project, implemented under the guidance of Dubai’s leadership, aims to reduce travel time along the corridor from 104 minutes to just 16 minutes by 2030. With improved traffic flow and road capacity, it’s estimated to save AED 45 billion in travel costs over the next 20 years.
The corridor connects major hubs like Dubai Islands, Deira Waterfront, and Dubai Maritime City, enhancing accessibility and growth.
Completed Upgrades and Future Plans
RTA has already completed major phases, including:
- Wafi Intersection: Enhanced connectivity with new bridges and tunnels.
- Dubai Islands Access: Five new bridges with a total capacity of 20,700 vehicles per hour.
- Falcon Interchange: Two bridges and a tunnel with a combined capacity of 24,000 vehicles per hour.
Future phases will further streamline traffic flow, making Dubai’s roads safer and more efficient.
The Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project reflects Dubai’s commitment to world-class infrastructure. Residents and visitors can look forward to shorter commutes, safer roads, and enhanced connectivity across the city.
