Thanks to its ever-growing popularity for being the IT destination for leisure, luxury, culture and everything fun, Dubai Airports has welcomed around 26 million passengers during the first half of this year (2023). As per the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA Dubai), over 26 million travellers have been at the Dubai airports, of whom more than 9 million have used smart gates to complete the entry and exit procedures within seconds. As per Dubai Airports, there are 120 smart gates and nine million passengers at the airport have used the smart gates. Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, director-general of GDRFA Dubai, has also said the passport counters and smart gates at Dubai airports are all set to serve a large number of travellers during the summer vacation and Eid Al Adha holiday period. Furthermore, as per the authorities, the number of passengers is expected to increase monthly.
Around 36 per cent of passengers at Dubai Airports have used the smart gates, and as per the authorities, the number of smart gate users will reach 50 per cent by the end of the year. Smart gates feature a new contactless process where passengers can look at the green light in the camera, and once done, they can pass through the gate. However, one needs to keep in mind, that masks, glasses and hats should be removed before using the smart gates.
Besides, Dubai Airports has recently travel advisory for Eid Al Adha and the summer holidays.
Dubai Airports Issues Travel Advisory For Passengers
- To ensure that both inbound and outbound passengers have a safe, comfortable journey, Emirates Airlines and Dubai Airports have issued some advice for travellers. Emirates has requested passengers to arrive at the airport at least three hours prior and pay attention to boarding times, as gates close 20 minutes before departure.
- Furthermore, the airline has also requested passengers to use the airline’s home, early and self-service check-in facilities as well as a city check-in option at ICD Brookfield Place in DIFC or in Ajman. Besides, FlyDubai has also requested passengers to arrive at least four hours before the departure time.

Dubai Airports Requests Travellers To Arrive Early, Keep All Their Paperwork In Place & Follow Lugage Rules
- Travellers flying with other airlines have been asked to arrive at the airport no earlier than three hours before the scheduled departure. Dubai Airports is requesting that travellers use the online check-in option if available. Families with children over age 12 can use Smart Gates for faster passport control.
