Finding parking in busy parts of Dubai can sometimes feel harder than the actual drive. Around Burj Khalifa during dinner hours or near the Trade Centre during exhibitions, drivers often spend several minutes circling streets just to find an empty spot. Now, Dubai is introducing a smarter solution that could change that experience completely.
Parkin announced on Wednesday that it has begun installing more than 500 curb-side and pole-mounted parking cameras across three major areas in Dubai — Trade Centre 1, Burj Khalifa, and Al Corniche.
The project marks the first phase of Parkin’s new smart parking system, designed to reduce congestion, improve parking availability, and make payments more seamless for residents and visitors.
In places like Downtown Dubai, where parking fills up quickly during weekends and evenings, many drivers rely on luck or timing to secure a spot. The new AI-powered cameras are expected to make that process far more efficient.
The curb-side cameras, introduced as the first of their kind in the region, use advanced AI technology to capture vehicle images and automatically read number plates. Once a vehicle enters or exits a parking zone, the system records the timing, calculates parking duration, and can automatically process payments through the Parkin app.
For drivers, that means less rushing back to the car to extend parking and fewer worries about unexpected fines.

Dubai’s busiest districts are getting smarter
The first locations selected for the rollout are some of the city’s most crowded and high-demand parking zones.
Trade Centre 1 regularly sees heavy traffic during conferences, exhibitions, and business events. Meanwhile, Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai remain packed almost daily with tourists, shoppers, and residents heading to restaurants, cafes, and attractions.
Al Corniche also experiences constant movement, especially during evenings and weekends when families and visitors gather along the waterfront.
By monitoring parking occupancy in real time, the system can help improve vehicle turnover and reduce the traffic caused by drivers repeatedly searching for available spaces.
Anyone who has driven around Downtown during peak hours knows how quickly roads slow down when dozens of vehicles are hunting for parking at the same time. The new system aims to ease exactly that problem.
Parking payments may soon happen automatically
One of the biggest changes for motorists will be the introduction of auto-payments through the Parkin Wallet.
Once connected through the Parkin app, the cameras can automatically calculate parking fees based on how long a vehicle remains parked. Drivers may no longer need to manually pay at machines or send SMS parking codes every time they stop.
Dubai residents are already familiar with digital parking options, but this takes convenience a step further. The process becomes almost invisible in the background, which is exactly what smart city systems are designed to do.
Parkin also confirmed that all cameras will be solar-powered. Besides reducing operational costs, it aligns with Dubai’s wider push towards sustainable and technology-driven infrastructure.
More cameras are expected across Dubai
The rollout does not stop with these three areas. Parkin said parking lot cameras have already been installed in controlled parking zones across the emirate, while another 200 cameras are expected to be deployed in additional locations soon.
Earlier in February 2026, Parkin also began testing a separate smart scan car camera system on one inspection vehicle.
Unlike traditional parking enforcement officers walking through streets, the roof-mounted scan technology allows inspectors to monitor parking activity while driving through busy roads. This could become particularly useful in crowded districts where foot inspections slow down operations.
Dubai has spent years building a reputation as one of the world’s leading smart cities. From AI-powered public services to automated transport upgrades, the emirate continues introducing technology into everyday urban life. Parking is simply the latest piece of that transformation.
Here’s how the rollout could improve daily driving
For many residents, the biggest advantage may simply be saving time.
Instead of driving around packed streets searching endlessly for a spot or worrying about parking tickets during meetings and dinners, drivers could soon experience a much smoother process.
Areas like Downtown Dubai, DIFC, and Trade Centre are known for high parking demand, especially during events and weekends. As the system expands across more neighbourhoods, daily commutes and short city visits may become noticeably less stressful.
The shift also reflects how Dubai continues adapting its infrastructure around convenience, automation, and real-time data.
For now, the first phase is already underway — and many Dubai motorists will likely notice the new cameras appearing across key roads and parking areas very soon.
