The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), part of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, has announced a series of temporary road closures to allow for essential infrastructure upgrades. The works are set to run from Thursday, 7 August to Monday, 11 August 2025, affecting two major routes in the capital.

From Thursday morning, drivers using the busy Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Road and Al Falah Road intersection will face partial lane closures. The ITC confirmed that the restrictions will remain in place until 5:00 am on Monday, 11 August.
The maintenance works are part of Abu Dhabi’s ongoing efforts to improve traffic flow, reduce bottlenecks, and enhance road safety. Motorists are advised to follow all posted signs and temporary diversions.
Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street: 9–11 August
From Saturday, 9 August, Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street will also experience partial closures in selected lanes, continuing until early Monday morning. This road is a key link for commuters, so delays are expected, especially during peak travel hours.
Drivers should plan extra time for their journeys and avoid the area if possible.
Why are these closures happening
Abu Dhabi’s transport authority has been implementing phased upgrades across the city to keep pace with growing traffic demands. These closures are part of a scheduled maintenance programme to ensure smoother, safer journeys in the future.
Although the works may cause temporary inconvenience, the long-term benefits include reduced congestion and improved road conditions.
Travel tips for a smoother weekend journey
- Use navigation apps with real-time updates to identify faster detours.
- Travel outside peak congestion times, particularly on Friday and Sunday evenings.
- Stay alert for temporary signs and lane changes in affected zones.
- Consider alternative corridors such as Corniche Road or Hazza Bin Zayed Street to bypass closures.
Plan, drive safe
While the closures may disrupt normal travel patterns, planning will help minimise delays. Abu Dhabi’s road network is expected to return to normal from Monday morning, 11 August, with upgraded sections ready to handle traffic more efficiently.
