‘Drishyam’ to become the first hindi film remade in korean, here’s everything we know

‘Drishyam’ has become a cult classic favourite and the hype over this film was so real that the movie started was made originally in the Indian regional language Malayalam and then the Mohanlal starrer thriller kindled a fervour so palpable that it was made in many other languages like Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi. Miraculously, every retelling of this movie turned out to be successful, resonating with audiences far and wide.

In a series of cinematic and box-office successes, the Hindi remake also emerged as a formidable force at the box office, strengthen by the captivating performances of Ajay Devgn and Tabu, who breathed life into its core characters.

On Sunday, during the ongoing 76th Cannes Film Festival, a momentous revelation happened at the Indian Pavilion and it’s confirmed that ‘Drishyam’ would be remade in the Korean language.

In an unprecedented union of creative forces, Kumar Mangat Pathak’s Panorama Studios, renowned for crafting the Hindi adaptation of ‘Drishyam’, has joined hands with Anthology Studios from South Korea to embark on an extraordinary journey. Together, they shall pave the way for a remarkable milestone in cinematic history as ‘Drishyam’ becomes the first Hindi film to be re-made in the Korean language. This momentous collaboration not only marks the inception of an extraordinary partnership between the two studios but also heralds a new era of cross-cultural synergy.

According to a report by Deadline, the wheels of production are set to turn in the upcoming year, unveiling a fresh chapter in the annals of creativity. Talking about the collab , Kumar Mangat Pathak told Deadline, “I’m excited that the Drishyam franchise is being made in Korean, a first for a Hindi film. This will not only increase its reach outside India but will also put Hindi cinema on the global map. All these years, we have been inspired by Korean fare, now they have found a muse in one of our films.”

Former Warner Bros executive Jay Choi, who co-founded Anthology Studios, also expressed his happiness saying, “We are thrilled to have an opportunity to remake a massively successful Hindi film with a touch of originality from Korean cinema. And the remake has greater significance as the first major co-production between Korea and India. Through our partnership, we will be able to bring the best of both Indian and Korean cinema and make a meaningful remake that is as excellent as the original.”

About ‘Drishyam’

‘Drishyam’ is a captivating crime thriller originally made in Malayalam, focusing on George Kutty, portrayed by Mohanlal, and his family. Their lives take a dramatic turn when the son of a high-ranking police officer goes missing, making them the primary suspects. The film, written and directed by Jeethu Joseph in 2013, achieved tremendous success and was subsequently remade and continued in four other Indian languages. The Kannada version was titled ‘Drishya,’ the Telugu version ‘Drushyam,’ the Tamil version ‘Papanasam,’ and the Hindi version retained the original title ‘Drishyam’ in 2015. The Hindi remake featured Ajay Devgn, Tabu, and Shriya Saran in lead roles.
