It’s been a minute since Rohit Shetty unleashed his all-male cop universe with Singham, Simmba, and Sooryavanshi, and fans have been screaming for a female cop to join the lineup. So, what took him so long? Rohit, in his usual candid style, shared with News18 Showsha that he was waiting for the perfect script and the right moment. He said, “Till 2018, I wasn’t even sure if there’s going to be a cop universe.” But once Simmba scored big, it was full steam ahead, and the vision for Lady Singham was finally born during Sooryavanshi.
Shakti Shetty – A Spin-Off Years in the Making
Rohit confessed that Deepika’s Shakti Shetty was supposed to have her solo film ages ago, but COVID threw a spanner in the works. The pandemic derailed the entire cop universe schedule, leaving Sooryavanshi on ice and setting back releases by years. In his own words,“What happened was that we lost two years in Covid. Sooryavanshi was supposed to release in March 2019.” That delay pushed everything, including Deepika’s big debut as Lady Singham.
Writing the Perfect Script for Lady Singham’s Story
While the concept for Deepika’s character is clear, Rohit admits they’re still working on her full journey. He’s got her backstory, her grit, and her power mapped out, but there’s more to craft before Lady Singham gets her full-fledged debut. Rohit assured fans, “A female-led cop film headlined by Lady Singham will definitely happen, otherwise we wouldn’t have introduced her at all. There’s a reason why we’ve emphasised on that character and her name in Singham Again.”
