5 Shocking UAE Traffic Fines You Must Avoid — Avoid These Costly Mistakes!

Driving in the UAE is straightforward if you’re aware of the rules. Ignoring them can result in hefty fines and penalties. Here’s how you can avoid common traffic fines and keep your driving record spotless.

1. Speeding Fines

Speeding is one of the most common traffic violations in the UAE. It’s easy to get carried away, but the consequences can be severe.

  • Over 80 KPH above the limit: AED 3,000 fine, 23 black points, and car impounded for 60 days.
  • 60-80 KPH over the limit: AED 2,000 fine, 12 black points, and car impounded for 30 days.
  • Up to 60 KPH over the limit: AED 1,500 fine, 6 black points, and car impounded for 15 days.
  • Less than 50 KPH over the limit: Fines range from AED 300 to AED 1,000.

Tips to Avoid Speeding Fines:

  • Know the Limits: Memorize the speed limits of the main roads you use.
  • Use Cruise Control: It helps maintain a steady speed, especially on long drives.

2. Parking in Restricted Zones

Illegal parking can cost you dearly in Dubai.

  • Illegal parking fine: AED 1,000 and 6 black points.

What to Avoid:

  • Reserved spaces
  • Police or ambulance vehicle zones
  • Near fire hydrants
  • Spaces for people of determination

Tips to Avoid Parking Fines:

  • Check for Signs: Always look for parking signs when parking in a new area.
  • Know the Zones: Familiarize yourself with parking zones (A to G) and their rules.

3. Vehicles that Disturb the Peace

The UAE values peace and quiet. Driving a noisy vehicle can lead to significant fines.

  • Noise pollution fine: AED 2,000 and 12 black points.
  • Loud music or horn: AED 400 and 4 black points.
  • Illegal modifications: AED 1,000 and 12 black points, car impounded for 30 days.

Tips to Avoid Noise Pollution Fines:

  • Get a License: Obtain proper licenses for any car modifications.
  • Be Considerate: Avoid honking unnecessarily and keep music at a reasonable volume.

4. Overtaking on the Hard Shoulder

Overtaking on the hard shoulder is not only illegal but dangerous.

  • Fine for overtaking on the hard shoulder: AED 1,000 and 6 black points.

Tips to Avoid Hard Shoulder Fines:

  • Be Patient: Wait for a safe opportunity to overtake.
  • Overtake Legally: Always overtake on the left, never on the right.

5. Forgetting Basic Safety Rules

It’s easy to forget some rules, but these can also lead to fines.

  • Not wearing a seat belt: AED 400 and 4 black points.
  • Expired tires: AED 500, 4 black points, and car impounded for 7 days.
  • No driving license: AED 500, 4 black points, and car impounded for 7 days.
  • Not leaving a safe distance between cars: AED 400 and 4 black points.

Tips to Avoid Fines for Forgetfulness:

Routine Maintenance: Regularly service your car to catch issues early.

Check Essentials: Ensure seat belts are fastened, tires are in good condition, and carry your license.

Drive Smart in the UAE

By following these tips, you can avoid common traffic fines in the UAE and enjoy a safer driving experience. Staying informed about traffic regulations and practicing good driving habits will not only save you money but also keep your driving record clean.
