Disneyland Abu Dhabi Location Revealed: Bob Iger Shares First Look from Yas Island

A whole new world is officially coming to the capital, and it’s looking magical.

The wait is finally over for Disney fans across the UAE. After months of speculation, the exact footprint of the Middle East’s first-ever Disneyland has been revealed. On January 26, Disney CEO Bob Iger took to social media to share a major update that has sent the region into a frenzy: he is officially “walking the site” of what will soon become Disneyland Abu Dhabi.

The announcement marks a historic moment for the Emirates, placing Abu Dhabi firmly on the global map as the seventh home for the world’s most iconic theme park.

exactly is Disneyland Abu Dhabi located?

While the developers, Miral, haven’t released a GPS pin just yet, the clues in Iger’s latest photos tell a very clear story. The Disney chief was seen strolling along a pristine waterfront stretch on Yas Island, specifically in the Yas North area.

Eagle-eyed residents quickly spotted the iconic “YAS” sign in the background of Iger’s photos (mirrored, as he was facing the water), alongside a small jetty that perfectly aligns with the undeveloped northern tip of the island. This plot is the only remaining space on Yas Island large enough to house a project of this magnitude. For those familiar with the area, it’s situated right off the E12 highway, making it an easy commute for those driving up from Dubai or heading over from Zayed International Airport.

What makes the Abu Dhabi park different?

This isn’t just a copy-paste of the parks in Florida or Paris. Disney has promised that the Abu Dhabi destination will be “authentically Disney and distinctly Emirati.” One of the most exciting details revealed is the incorporation of a water element directly into the park’s design—a first for any Disney castle in the world.

Imagine a stunning Disney fortress reflecting off the azure waters of the Arabian Gulf. The park is expected to be a hybrid of indoor and outdoor spaces, carefully designed to beat the summer heat while still offering that classic open-air “Magic Kingdom” feel. This is a massive win for those of us who love a day out but aren’t huge fans of the 45°C humidity.

The Miral and Disney Partnership

The project is a massive collaboration between The Walt Disney Company and Miral, the powerhouse behind Yas Island’s transformation into a global tourism hub.

  • Miral will handle the heavy lifting: development, construction, and day-to-day operations.
  • Disney Imagineers will lead the creative vision, ensuring every corner of the park drips with the storytelling magic fans expect.

This model is similar to how Tokyo Disney Resort operates, which is widely considered one of the best-designed parks in the world. It’s a great example of local news that highlights how the UAE is partnering with global giants to bring world-class experiences to our doorstep.

When can we book our tickets?

If you’re ready to pack your bags, you’ll need a little more patience. Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro previously hinted that the design phase takes about two years, followed by four to six years of construction.

Current projections suggest Disneyland Abu Dhabi will open between 2030 and 2033. While that sounds like a long way off, the scale of the project—which includes themed hotels, retail districts, and potentially a connection to the upcoming
Abu Dhabi Tram Line 4—explains the timeline.

The “Disney Effect” on the UAE

The arrival of Mickey and friends is expected to be a game-changer for the local economy. Beyond the “cool factor,” the park will create over 20,000 jobs and likely cause property prices in the surrounding Yas Island and Al Raha areas to skyrocket. Experts are already predicting a 30-50% increase in property values by the time the gates open.

For residents, it means more than just a new place for a weekend trip. It’s a sign of the UAE’s growing influence as a global cultural crossroads.
