In 2022, filmmaker Ayan Mukerji’s magnum opus ‘Brahmastra part one – Shiva’ created waves in the Indian film industry by raking in a staggering Rs 400 crore globally. The movie boasted an enviable ensemble cast including the likes of Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy, and Nagarjuna, and was a labour of love that had been in the making for almost a decade.
But Ayan Mukerji isn’t content with resting on his laurels just yet. He is now determined to bring ‘Brahmastra’ parts two and three to the silver screen at an accelerated pace. The second instalment of ‘Brahmastra’ will focus on the story of Dev, who was revealed to be Shiva’s father in part one. To achieve his ambitious vision, Ayan plans to shoot both parts two and three concurrently, to release the second part in theatres by 2026.
Fortunately for fans of the series, they won’t have to wait nearly as long as they did for the first installment. Despite taking nearly seven years to complete ‘Brahmastra part one’, Ayan Mukerji is determined to keep the momentum going and bring this epic tale to its thrilling conclusion in a more timely fashion.

During his appearance at the News18 Rising India summit in New Delhi, Ayan Mukerji dropped some tantalizing details about his plans for ‘Brahmastra’s next two installments. “We’re going to make Brahmastra 2 and 3 together,” he declared, adding that while the team is taking its time with the writing process, they’re keen to deliver an exceptional cinematic experience without cutting corners. “The truth is we are going to take a little bit of time to write it. I know there’s a lot of anticipation.” He added, “People want the (second part of the film) film to come out. But pehle achchi tarah se likhenge ( we will write it properly) without compromising it. I think it will be about three years from now before we see Brahmastra 2 on the big screen.”
Despite the success of ‘Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva’ at the box office, the film was not without its detractors. Criticism focused particularly on the lacklustre dialogue, written by Hussain Dalal. Mukerji acknowledged this shortcoming, saying, “We did get some mixed reactions. We still did really good numbers. A lot of people accepted our film. It also did well when it came out on a streaming (platform). It’s probably the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2022. But I still hear that criticism very clearly.”
Mukerji is committed to addressing these concerns and making ‘Brahmastra 2’ a stronger, more compelling film. “I accept and agree with some of [the criticism],” he said. “Some of that criticism came down to some aspects related to the writing and story of Brahmastra. I want to understand these things and make part two better.” With his eye fixed firmly on the future, it’s clear that Mukerji is fully invested in delivering a cinematic masterpiece that will resonate with audiences for years to come.
Shah Rukh Khan’s brief cameo in ‘Brahmastra’ was a delightful surprise for audiences, leaving many eager for more. Speculation is rife about whether the king of Bollywood will make another appearance in the upcoming installments of the franchise. Fans can only hope that they will be treated to more of Khan’s iconic screen presence in ‘Brahmastra’ 2 and 3.
With the clock ticking down, audiences can hardly wait to see what this visionary filmmaker has in store for them next.
