Amitabh Bachchan Gifts A Fan the Famous Jacket He Wore in ‘Shahenshah’

Envision possessing a prized possession worn by the one and only Amitabh Bachchan. It may seem like a crazy thought, but not for this particular gentleman from Saudi Arabia! The iconic Bollywood actor recently bestowed a piece of cinematic legacy to his fan in Saudi Arabia. This fan now holds dear the steel jacket worn by Amitabh Bachchan in the 1998 movie ‘Shahenshah’, a revered symbol of the actor’s prowess on screen. Who is this Saudi Fan?

Turki Alal Shikh is the Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA) of Saudi Arabia since 2019, which has brought about liberal changes in the kingdom’s arts and entertainment scene. He started his political and governmental career by working in the Interior Ministry, then the Defence Ministry, and later as a royal advisor and minister. Besides, he is a published poet, songwriter, and book and film writer, and his latest film, ‘Cello’, has received international acclaim. Under his supervision, the GEA has organized three events, namely The Joy Awards, MDLBEAST Soundstorm, and Riyadh Season, which have transformed Riyadh into an entertainment hub in the Middle East.

‘Shahenshah’, a timeless masterpiece, features Amitabh Bachchan’s unforgettable portrayal of the character with the striking black jacket adorned with a steel sleeve and his signature grey hair. Even today, his performance remains a topic of conversation amongst movie buffs worldwide. What’s remarkable about this iconic role is the fact that Amitabh battled a muscular disease during the filming. Despite this hurdle, he was adamant about donning the heavy costume, including the 18-kilogram steel jacket, during all the intense fight scenes. His commitment to his craft and unwavering professionalism on set has earned him high praise and admiration from his peers in the industry.

Directed by Tinnu Anand and produced by Tinnu himself, ‘Shahenshah’ was a comeback film for Amitabh, who had been away from the big screen for a while. The film also starred Meenakshi Sheshadri, Pran, Aruna Irani, Prem Chopra, Amrish Puri, and Kader Khan. The story was provided by Amitabh’s wife, Jaya Bachchan, while the screenplay was written by Inder Raj Anand.
