AlUla Desert Polo 2026 Returns This Weekend

Elite polo, royal participation, and a full family experience come together in AlUla this Friday and Saturday

There are sporting events, and then there are experiences. AlUla Desert Polo 2026 firmly sits in the second category. Returning this weekend, the iconic tournament once again brings world-class polo to one of Saudi Arabia’s most dramatic landscapes, combining elite sport with culture, hospitality, and desert charm.

Taking place on Friday, January 16, and Saturday, January 17, the fifth edition of AlUla Desert Polo will be held at the Mohammed Yousuf Naghi Equestrian Village. Surrounded by towering sandstone formations and open desert, the setting alone makes this one of the most visually striking polo tournaments in the world.

For audiences in Dubai and across the UAE, it feels familiar in the best way. Much like attending a polo match at Al Habtoor Polo Resort or a major equestrian event in Abu Dhabi, AlUla Desert Polo blends sport with lifestyle, making it just as much about the atmosphere as the action on the field.

AlUla Desert Polo 2026

A signature event on AlUla’s sporting calendar

Organised by the Royal Commission for AlUla, AlUla Desert Polo 2026 continues to play a key role in showcasing the region’s equestrian heritage. Horses have long been part of AlUla’s story, and this tournament reflects that history while presenting the sport in a modern, international format.

The event has steadily grown since its launch, attracting global attention and some of the biggest names in professional polo. Today, it stands as a flagship sporting event for AlUla, drawing visitors from across the Gulf and beyond.

An official team presentation will be held on Thursday, January 15, setting the tone ahead of two packed days of competition. From there, it is all about fast play, sharp teamwork, and precision riding.

Match format and what to expect on the field

Over the course of the tournament, six teams will compete in nine matches. Day One features six games, giving spectators a full afternoon of polo from the first chukka to the last. Day Two then narrows the field, with three decisive matches leading into the Grand Final and awards ceremony.

The schedule keeps the pace tight and engaging, even for those new to polo. Matches are structured to be easy to follow, with clear breaks that allow guests to explore the venue, enjoy food and entertainment, or simply take in the views.

As the sun begins to set over AlUla, the atmosphere shifts. The desert light softens, the temperature cools, and the setting becomes even more memorable.

International stars and regional prestige

AlUla Desert Polo brings together 18 players across six teams, featuring a strong mix of international professionals, regional players, and royal participation. Among the standout names are David “Pelón” Stirling Jr. and Pablo MacDonough, both widely respected for their skill and leadership on the field.

Ignacio Figueras also joins the line-up, adding further experience to an already competitive roster. Female players continue to play an important role in the tournament, with Lia Salvo, Catalina Maria Lavinia, and Felix Alejo Ortiz de Taranco Stirling competing alongside their male counterparts.

Adding to the prestige is the participation of HRH Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Salman Al Saud. His presence reflects the strong cultural and historical ties between equestrian sport and leadership in the region.

The tournament is also supported by prominent patrons, including Alejandro Antonio Poma Raskosky, Babar Naseem, Naveen Jindal, Venkatesh Jindal, Angus David St John Paradice, and Jennifer Rae Luttrell Benardoni, further reinforcing its global standing.

AlUla Desert Polo

More than a polo match

While the matches are the main attraction, AlUla Desert Polo is designed as a full-day experience. Guests can expect a carefully curated mix of gourmet food offerings, live music, and interactive entertainment spread across the venue.

Families are very much part of the audience. A dedicated Kids Zone offers activities designed to keep younger visitors engaged, making it easy for parents to enjoy the matches without feeling rushed. This family-friendly approach mirrors what many Dubai residents expect from major outdoor events.

Cultural elements are woven throughout the day. Pop-up retail stalls, craft displays, and interactive installations highlight local creativity and traditions. Live performances, both traditional and contemporary, add to the relaxed festival feel between matches.

It is this balance that sets the event apart. You can watch high-level sport, enjoy a social afternoon, and still feel connected to the place you are in.

Tickets, premium access, and timings

Tickets for AlUla Desert Polo 2026 are available now. Single-day passes start from SAR 380 when purchased through the app, while a two-day pass is priced at SAR 570. Premium one-day passes are available at SAR 400 via the website.

For those looking for something extra, the Polo Players Circle add-on offers a more exclusive experience. This includes all Premium Pass benefits, along with guided access to the field before or after matches. Guests can meet the players, take photos, and receive exclusive souvenirs, adding a personal touch to the day.

Matches run from noon to 6.30pm on both Friday and Saturday, allowing visitors to make the most of the afternoon and early evening hours.

AlUla Desert Polo stands out

In a region known for hosting large-scale sporting events, AlUla Desert Polo 2026 offers something different. It is intimate yet international, relaxed yet polished. The desert setting gives it a sense of place that is hard to replicate elsewhere.

For Dubai-based travellers, it fits perfectly into a short weekend getaway focused on culture, travel, and lifestyle. Much like attending a desert concert or heritage festival, it feels special without being overwhelming.

As sports tourism continues to grow across the region, AlUla Desert Polo remains a strong example of how tradition and modern entertainment can come together seamlessly.

AlUla Desert Polo promises two days of top-tier polo, striking scenery, and a welcoming atmosphere for all ages.
